Hi, I have been dieting using MFP and exercising for 7 weeks now and have lost around 14 1bs. New to me was weight training using the machines. Unfortunately I have strained tendons around my shoulder, rotator cuff? Physio has helped as have painkillers. I can't use any machines involving my arms as the pain is too great. However, I don't want to give up exercise but have to be very careful into my shoulder is ok again. Suggestions please. I can exercise twice a week for around 1 hour per session. I was doing 20mins x 2 cardio and 20 minutes on weights in two sets plus squats using ball. I am really upset having got this far and am not sure what caused the shoulder injury.
Thanks for any advice you can give me. I don't want to give up!

Honestly a big reason people get upper, and lower bicep tendon strains is because they are using machines that don't let them use the natural movement that their body goes through. If it is that bad that you can't do any workouts, you need to go see a doctor, and get a prescription for PT, and ask for a cortisone shot, and then take it easy for a couple of weeks. If you are going to lift don't do anything that has your arms going farther than 90 degrees, and once you everything is fine stop using machines unless you have to.0 -

Oh also use Naproxin (Aleve) not Advil0 -
There are a myriad of reasons that could be causing your shoulder pain. People on an internet forum can only makes guesses. What I can tell you is that shoulder pain does not typically just "go away" on it's own, especially if you are still exercising. You need to make sure your physiotherapist is competent and if so, you need to follow their advice to the tee until your should is completely better. Be careful with Aleve or any pills as they can mask the pain. Pain is your body's way of saying "This is not good for me". The shoulder is a very complex and sensitive piece of geometry. Keeping it healthy is a fine balance.0

Thanks, I have voltarol (difonec sodium) which does work. I will probably do some walking and stepping and leave anything with arms alone for a while and work on the physio exercises for that. I had no idea the weight machines could cause this problem, it might also have been caused by a lot of violin playing as the shoulder rest crushes the muscles. Maybe the combination was the problem! As I am playing next week my main priority is to sort out the physio so that I can play. After that i will have to look at the exercise routines.
