Tea vs. water

Does tea count toward the daily water we need?

There is no set amount of water that we need and all liquids are used by the body in the same way. You get water out of fruit (an apple is 85% water) and veggies, having soup, drinking tea, juice, etc.

As far as your body getting the moisture it needs for hydration, the answer is yes. If you are asking whether you should log it as water in MFP that seems to be a personal preference. I don't log water in MFP but if I did I would certainly log tea.

No. Tea has caffine and will not only dehydrate you but reduce levels of things such as iron. You should have at least one glass of wjter for each cup of tea

I don't mean to be rude, but this ^^ is utter nonsense. But you don't have to believe me, just do a search on any reputable medical site and you'll find that tea is full of healthy antioxidants and will hydrate you just as well as plain water.

I consider my tea as water, because I drink decaf or herbal. I have heard that for caffienated beverages you need to drink extra water because they dehydrate, but I doubt it's as clear cut as "drink an extra 8 oz of h2o for each cup you drink" or something like that.

Do whatever you feel is helpful to you.

I agree. If you are really concerned about the tea binding iron just add plenty of lemon to mealtime tea.
