Poisoned Halloween Candy- Real or Urban Legend

It's good to be cautious but I think people have gotten a bit paranoid. Of course I've always checked my child's candy for tampering but I always thought it was highly unlikely that I'd ever find anything. It's a shame this fear has gotten so out of hand because homemade Halloween goodies were the best (when I was growing up) and now no one eats them. If you make them, you are deemed the neighborhood psychopathic child murderer.

I know Snopes isn't the "end all, be all" of truth but: http://www.snopes.com/horrors/poison/halloween.asp

When I was a kid there were reports of tiny razor blades being found in chocolate bars.

I heard that too, but I honestly can't figure out how they could get it in there without opening the packaging and ruining the appearance of the actual chocolate as well. I just don't see how that is possible. Surely, it would be REALLY obvious.

It's a urban legend, the only time children have been poisoned by halloween candy was because a family member did it.

I died when I was 5 from eating a Peanut Butter Cup injected with Arsenic.
  • I always heard razor blades in apples but then I thought, (at that age) who wants and apple for Halloween anyway?

Phew. As long as it isn't made from furry hippos, I'm cool with it.

    THIS^^^.

Although in the U.S., almost all conventional candy is poisoned by Monsanto- made with either high-fructose Monsanto’s GMO corn syrup or Monsanto’s GMO sugar, and Monsanto’s GMOs are not something any child should be eating.

Haha, my mom LOVED Reeces peanut butter cups. We'd go through my candy & I never got a single one. There was always a tiny little tear in the wrapper so I couldn't have it. My mom had to take all of them away every year.

By the time I was 9 I could check my own candy & I just gave them to her.

We stayed in our little neighborhood for Halloween every year. No one wanted to poison us; there wasn't really any fear of it but we checked the treats anyway.

I'm telling you...those candy-tampering fiends are all about the Reese's...I have to eat them all every year too. But it's a sacrifice I'm willing to make for my kiddos
