Resting heart rate drop

A few months ago in an unfit state my resting heart rate (checked using two different methods) was around 68/70.

After exercising for 5/6 times a week - anything from 30min to 2hrs a day, my resting HR was down to a regular 58/60. I recently gone from working in the fat burning HR zone to aerobic/anaerobic zones on short 1 mile runs.

After a week of this my resting HR took a sudden dip and now hovers around 49/51. That seems a big and sudden decrease.

I feel great and I'm aged 57. I've also had my blood pressure checked and it's around 118/74.

Any ideas on why a sudden drop and should I be concerned? Thanks.

Short, high-intensity exercise is a great way to get the same aerobic benefits in a short amount of time. I think you're seeing the results of that. It is weird that it's only been a week and you're only doing a mile. Is it possible that you're miscalculating that?

If your blood pressure and other biomarkers are normal, I wouldn't worry about it. However, I'm not a doctor. If you're concerned or if it continues to drop precipitously, you should see a professional.
