Getting Bored..

So I am at this point where I've been before, and know all so well. I am getting bored with my workouts! But this time I don't want to just stop for a month like I normally do, I want to stick with it and reach my goal by Christmas! I'm thinking maybe if I start training for something like a half marathon( which I've done before) or a 5k it will put me back in that "get up and go " spirit! What do you all think?

I think you should start lifting weights.
No fitness regimen is complete with out strength training. You can't just run around all day and expect to be/feel fit.0 -
I totally agree and have been incorporating weights in to my workouts! I think I will try to switch it up and focus more on weights! Thanks!0

Squat, bench, dips, pull ups, deadlifts, standing press, snatch, clean and jerk.
Do them.0 -
Variety is the spice of life! Mix it up!0

^^^^This is good advice0 -
Try something new. Like a new fitness DVD. I felt the same way as you with 30ds over level 1. I switched to level 2 and I feel great. I also bought jillians yoga meltdown dvd. Trying new things have helped me get over the boredom of working out. It's always worth a try0

And if you cant' do big weights... Don't sweat it. Just do plenty of reps and drop the rest between sets.
Oh, and compound lifts are the bomb.
Personally as a starter i'd avoid clean and jerk and snatch - You need a fair bit of base strength to do those 2 exercises at any kind of intensity without injuring yourself.
I'd make a start with:
Deadlifts
Squat
Bench
Bent-over row
Dips
Pull ups/lat pulldowns
Standing press... Or my favourite - hammer curl straight to push press: http://youtu.be/oqQpgWFAVCA
Start light. Leave any kind of ego at home - this isn't about keeping up with _anyone_ which is one of the first things that puts people off. Work at your own pace and make sure your form is good at the weight you're on and you're comfortable before moving up - again then work till you're comfortable on your last rep (but that you feel it working you) - and step up again.
Rinse and repeat.
Want to make it harder? Reduce the rest between sets to less than 20 seconds. Harder? 10 seconds. Harder? No rest between sets - Move from one exercise straight to another in a circuit with no rest at all. Finish 1 circuit, rest for 2 mins - go again.
HARDER? No rest between any sets. Circuit 3x with no rest between sets or circuits.
If you feel that's not a challenge, come back to me. I'm sure i'll have a few drills that could challenge ya. Lol0 -
Try yoga, a dance class, rock climbing, kayaking, etc. There's any number of non-boring things to suit your fancy.0
