Visceral Fat Goes First?

Hi there. My doctor, who I trust and like a great deal, told me the reason I may not have been losing weight at first, is that visceral (intra-abdominal) fat comes off first before the external fat. It almost seems like that is happening (I'm starting to lose fat on the outside now), albeit slowly. However, I have no actual proof of that happening.

Has anyone else heard of this or had any experience with this?

That was not my experience. In fact, I find the opposite.

I'm not sure, but I kinda hope its true. Only because I don't see that much progress in my tummy yet.

it seems that whether its one type or the other, that losing either one would result in weight loss

Yes this is true. Visceral fat is the first to go. Subcutaneous belly fat is the last to go.

    How to tell the difference?

Subcutaneous is surface and flabby, visceral is what makes a big hard belly on a man and some women and is around the organs.

The good news is, visceral is the dangerous fat and it's good that it goes first.

Bad news is, the subcutaneous is the last and isn't cosmetically pleasing.

Google it if you want more details. Tons of articles on it online.

but fat is fat. Measure the fat loss, not the weight loss if you want accuracy in measuring your progress. Too many things affect weight to make it reliable.

Thanks, breezedaze. You know, in the first few months on my Fitness plan, I did notice my belly getting a bit softer and somewhat flatter, even the *kitten* scale is a liar. LOL.
