Because MFP wants to keep you at a certain deficit to meet your weight loss goals, since your weight is your starting position if it moves up your intake must move up likewise to preserve that same amount of deficit. As you lose weight your intake will also go down.

ETA: your weight isn't really the starting position MFP is using; it's using the TDEE (amount needed to maintain your body at your current activity level) Bigger bodies require more energy to maintain - so that's your higher starting number, not your scale-weight.

If you calculated (through a doctor or any online calculator) your total calories needed to maintain any current weight, if you enter a higher number into the "weight" blank, it will calculate a higher number of calories required to keep that weight. If you ate the same calories as a 150-pound woman as you did as a 200-pound woman you would need to exercise far more to maintain that weight, because your body simply does not need as much nutrients to maintain a smaller body.

This. The bigger you are the more calories you will eat to maintain your weight. As you lose weight you need fewer calories, if you put on weight you need more. Same applies if your eating at a constant deficit.
