I pride myself on never wearing a store-bought costume. Everything is always hand-made or at least assembled and customized, with the exception of some accessories.
I always pride myself on doing multiple costumes. Last year, I had a total of 8 costumes throughout the year, between Halloween, Warrior Dash, and a couple of theme parties.
Last Friday, I was Alice from Resident Evil. I made the dress. Cost about $6 in fabric.
My husband was a zombie Umbrella Corporation worker. Got a shirt at the thrift store and made an UC badge on transfer paper. It didn't work to directly iron it onto the shirt, so I ironed it on white fabric and sewed it on the shirt.
I also made us ID badges. Printed on cardstock, then "laminated" with packing tape.
Saturday, we participated in the city Zombie Walk. We continued with the Resident Evil theme, as Umbrella Corporation scientist and hazmat worker. My clothes were a collection of thrift store purchases (lab coat, polo shirt, white jeans), with more UC iron-on badges. His hazmat suit was painter's coveralls, decorated with biohazard logos. I cut a stencil and colored in the symbols wtih a magic marker. Liquid latex to create the necrotic tissue.
Then LAST night, at about 5pm, we decided to be something "completely different" for a party at the local casino. I already had his outfit (made it years ago... long story), but needed to sew mine. Spent about an hour and a half cutting out the dress and hood and sewing it. So glad I have storage bins of fabric I've collected over the years!
"NO ONE EXPECTS THE SPANISH INQUISITION!"
His hat was something he picked up at an army/navy store ages ago. My hat was something I wore in the late 80s. The goggles were a Halloween store purchase last year on clearance. And the crosses were $1 from a craft store, spray painted gold.
"Get... the soft cushion!"
Sadly, while no one expects the Spanish Inquisition, hardly anyone in this redneck town knows anything about Monty Python's Flying Circus, so people thought we were Little Red Riding Hood and Amelia Earhart. :indifferent:
But it's not just the people who get costumes. Here's my Pekingese Beavis in his pirate suit. I made the shirt and vest, and bought the hat. He already came with a missing eye. He lost it in an accident before I adopted him, but it adds to his rugged seadog look.

Lots of good creativity in this thread.
Mine is my current profile pic - pirate costume I wore to work yesterday. And here's a shot of my daughter as Astrid from How To Train Your Dragon. Her costume was MONTHS in the making, and a collaboration of efforts from her, me, and my husband to get it all done.

Zombie Mr. Furley and Zombie Mrs. Roper from Three's Company. Mr. Roper was always a jerk to Helen, so she did away with him.

Quite frankly - I have less skin showing than most women posting their swimsuit pictures show but since there are thigh highs and heels involved, I guess that makes me disrespectful to my husband (this is said dripping in sarcasm).
Exactly....I've seen some shots on this site that make this look like a Nun's Habit. Not kidding...I've literally seen a nude shot on a Blog with the woman covering up her bits with her hands.
BTW, not saying this is fact but...as fare as you all know, the OP's husband might actually be taking some PRIDE in how hot his wife and how just about every guy on this thread is wiping their chins...0 -
