7 Nutrients to track, 6 slots to fill...

Hello. Here is a question (and I know this is 100% opinionated): I know the next page of nutrients has all the data, but which would you leave out on your first page for food?

-Calories
-Fat
-Protein
-Potassium
-Sodium
-Sugar
-Carbs

I want to track carbs, but I do not have room, as all the others are important to track. So, wwyd and why?

*edit- I know calories are a must....so it is 6 nutrients to track, 5 slots to fill

Forget Potassium unless you have a health issue that means you need to track it.

Personally I'm not fussed about protein, I know I get enough.

    Calories, Carbohydrate, Protein, Fat <
I believe most people should track these unless you prefer guessing.

Those are what I track, plus iron because I'm slightly anemic.
  • Personally, I track calories, carbs, fat, protein, fiber, and potassium.

The potassium is never correct anyway as most of the entries do not include it. Also, unless you have a medical issue, there is no point tracking sugar. Also, I only track sodium as an indicator of whether to expect a water weight gain if I weigh myself.

So, as SideSteel says - Fat, Carbs and Protein. Only track others if you need to for medical reasons.

I track protein, fiber, and carbs.

But really, I mostly only track calories, and only some times. Once you do this for a while, you kinda get the hang of what you need to be doing.

Food producers are not required to list the levels of potassium and therefore if you track it it will look like you are completely potassium deprived ALL the time. Freaked me out at first, but seeing as how I'm pretty healthy... everyone on the forums just told me to relax. Still alive.

I'd leave out postassium. Many of the items in the MFP database don't have it entered anyway.

If you tend to eat processed food or eat out a lot, sodium is good to track. 2500 is the max.

I don't track sodium or sugar, because I know within a reasonable range how much I get, and it's on page two. I do track Calcium.

So Cals, Carbs, Fat, Protein, Calcium, Potassium
  • I see, I see. Very nice feedback, thank you. I want my Carb/Protein intake to be 45/35 percent, but I just didn't know which ones to get rid of. I guess since I know that there are 620mg of potassium in a potato, I can just do the math in my head. I have just read that it is good to keep those two nutrients (sodium) in balance with each other. I will be reading up on what the nutrients do, how they interact, so that I can decide what is best for me. But I would like to track carbs.

Potassium omission seems to be the consensus here. I think I will go with that. Thanks to all!
  • Sodium. Cus yeah.

lol. Did you also get 99 tacos for two cents last night? That's funny
