Different sites have different calorie limits - Why?

:ohwell:

I'm a member of two different weight loss sites because both have something to offer that I like. However...

My profile (gender, age, height, basic activity level) is the same on both sites, yet this site recommends a daily calorie intake 122 calories LOWER than the other website. Any ideas why that is?

You can get various predictions based on which TDEE formula is used. Some use the Katch-McArdle formula or Harris Benedict whereas MFP uses the Mifflin - St. Joer.

Does the other site include exercise in the calculation? This website (MFP) does not, and because of that, the activity multipliers are slightly different than other sites. Most sites figure your activity level including whatever exercise you project, here you are expected to add your exercise on a daily basis to add calories back to your baseline. When you set up your profile, the exercise amount you put in, for example 45 mins 3x/week, is NOT included in your calorie calculations at all. You can set it to zero, and your base calories will not change. Causes a lot of confusion.

My recommendation is figure out the math for the energy expenditure you expend and do a small cut from that will cause you to lose weight. I found the MFP calculations grossly under estimated what I needed to eat to lose a lb.
