Sugar Intake - On My Way To Diabetes?

So, I'm finally getting my overall calorie count to the point where I'm consistently under, but a couple of things are bothering me about my overall nutrition..

I pretty much always eat too many sugars, and usually also too many carbs. Diabetes runs in my family pretty heavily (all of my mother's side has it, and some of my father's) so I am really concerned about getting it.

MFP says my intake should be 124 grams(?) of carbohydrates, and 24 grams of sugars. But I usually exceed these limits. :( Is this dangerous? What level of sugar intake is dangerous?

I try to avoid high fructose corn syrup, and if I'm consuming sugars at all, I try to keep them as fruit sugars (fresh fruits, etc).. But I'm still worried.

Advice? Experience?

I pretty much always go over my sugar, unless I don't eat any fruit, or drink any milk during a given day. I have read other threads, with this discussed, and that seems to be the prevailing theme. Certainly you are wise to be concerned with a strong family history of diabetes.
