I feel like I'm in a rut. HRM and what to do next?

I love to exercise. It's honestly the one thing that keeps me sane with being a new mom.
But, honestly, what's the point anymore? As I lose weight, I have to work harder and harder to get my heart rate up. Last night I felt like I was going all out, but only managed to burn 493 calories in 50 minutes of exercise.
I know it's a good thing to have a great heart. My resting heart rate is in the mid 50's and my blood pressure tends to be 100/65.
Is my body in a rut? I know I need to change things up, but I'm not sure what to do. I'm considering focusing more on my running and signing up for a few races to keep me motivated.
Any thoughts?

I'm going to be frank but if you are just doing exercise to burn calories what a waste. 500 cals in an hour? Its good, it beats the couch. But for me it would not be enough.
Do it because you like it, so do something that you like. Find your other goals - distance, body composition, endorphins, speed, PB, whatever it might be. If it is just calories, you are right. What's the use?
Go for the races!0 -

Thanks for actually, you know, reading what I wrote.
I'm NOT exercising just for the sake of burning calories. Did you not read the very first part of the post that said it's what keeps me sane with a 9 month old in the house? Of course not.
Most of the time I don't even wear my HRM, been wearing it the last few days to see where I'm at fitness wise.
Thanks anyways.0 -
funny you should mention this.. I love the on line pilates, yoga and barre 10 minute workouts. I subscribe to mybarre3... the thing that sold me on Barre 3 is that one of the videos shows a new mom working out by the kitchen counter as her baby is sitting in the high chair eating. The videos are without music, and the instructors speak in a calm voice and show 3 levels of intensity. I watch them on my ipad.
Barre 3 has 10,20,30, 40 and 60 minute work outs. Some can even be done in your office at work.
And it's effective. My thighs and core are getting tighter without bulking out everyday. My arms are firming up.0 -

Know exactly what you are saying about working hard now and not burning as many calories as you used to burn. It's very frustrating....
I also know what you are saying about it keeping you sane .....
I got that way w/ the exercise program I as doing so started doing another one....Find something fun like TurboFire, or RevAbs or add some weights into your day. good luck.0 -
Thank you to those that gave helpful advice!
I think I will add martial arts to my mix along with training for some races.0 -
You already said it. You exercise for the sanity. I run for the fitness it brings me. The smaller and more fit you get the less you burn. That's a good thing. It means you're healthy.0
