Spartan Race

Hey everyone! So my dad emailed me this morning to let me know that he has registered us for a Spartan Race in May next year.
I am pretty excited!!
I am just wondering if anyone here has participated in one and what kind of training you did before hand to best prepare for it. Or if you found things afterwards that would have helped you out in the race. I plan on incorporating a lot of burpees into my workouts because it seems like they LOVE those. But any other advice?
Thanks!! :flowerforyou:

If you sign up, you'll get spammed every day with a suggested Workout Of the Day (WOD). Don't get too concerned if the exercises seem a little crazy! They are geared for all types of Spartan races, which go from 3 miles to 13 (I think). The longer ones have some pretty crazy obstacles and are usually hilly.
I'm doing a Spartan Sprint in Malibu, CA in December. I'll let you know how it turns out!0 -
Just finished the Gulf Coast Spartan Sprint. It was brutal as it was old school and super muddy. It was one of the few founders races this year. 4.2 miles with 30 obstacles (I swear they told us only 15 but they announced 30 when we got there).
Do lots of upper body workouts. We had to climb at least five 8' walls with no footholds (other than the braces on the sides). The course will depend on the terrain so they will all be different.
We had a blast and I will sign up again. For the record...I ran this race with my 19 and 20 year old sons. I'm 45 years old and still need to lose about 20 lbs but even with a dislocated thumb-watch out for the cargo nets...they weren't secured like the ones in warrior dash-which makes them more of a challenge and learn to flip over the top if you can). I finished in 1:42....I think 1:35 was the average so I don't feel too badly about my time.
You can use the Tough mudder workout as a guide or the WOD from spartan race. They claim you get a discount code if you sign up for their email WOD but it wouldn't work when I tried to register. It's still a pretty good guide. I don't follow it every day but sometimes to mix things up.
Good luck on your race!!!
