When to replace HRM batteries.

So I was wondering ... I have had my Polar FT4 about a year now. Sometimes the calorie counts seem inconsistent. Sometimes if I go for a long walk, I walk the same pace, the same route and one count might be higher, one might be lower. Nothing drastic. One morning it said I burned about 440 calories, another day I was surprised when it only showed 340 something! Does weather play a part? Sometimes my walks are early, so it might be upper 30's into the 40's, other times IF the weather is nice (nice for fall) the temps might be as high as the 60's.

So when is it best to change the battery? Does the watch let you know? PS, I can't find the booklet that came with my HRM and I guess I could google, just looking for real user answers.

Thanks.

PS I do know when my weight was heavier I seemed to burn more, when it goes a bit lower (I am currently battling some yo-yoing) I sometimes don't seem to burn off as much, no matter if it's the same pace, same route.

I had to replace mine after about 15 months. There is a low battery icon that will show up on the watch face and if you let it get really low it will put Low Battery across the screen. You will burn less as you get lighter and more fit plus you effort from day to day may change a bit. It sucks because the same run used to give me 350 calories that now I get about 270.

Make sure you are washing the strap without the transmitter on it after every few uses to keep the contacts clean. I rinse mine every time I use it. And don't store it with the transmitter attached to the strap or it can drain the transmitter battery.

Yes there is a battery icon like the last poster stated. I have a F6 and I just got that on mine. I think I've had it since early 2010.

"Thanks for this post! I was wondering if my battery needed changing, but no icon has shown up yet. I've been having issues with either super high readings (215+ when I haven't started my workout yet LOL) or no reading. I think I figured it out last night though. One particular sports bra seems to cause an issue. I think the band kind of rolls up under the strap! Bummer LOL.

Ah thank you! I did not know there would be an icon on the watch face to let me know. I have not seen anything yet, so the batteries must be good still. I figured it was probably just because my weight has been a little up at times, then a little back down. It can be frustrating at times though!

I appreciate the replies and help. Thanks! :)

*edit, I am good about washing the chest strap too, gets all sweaty and ick! haha

I have an FT4 and I need new batteries. Where do you get batteries for your HRM?

Just a tip to all with Polar HRMs: remove your transmitter from the chest strap when not in use. Supposedly it drains the battery.
