Anyone wanna help me with my "diet"?

So I'm still new to ALL of this; working out, "dieting," and support (while doing it). Basically I've been sharing with my family and friends about how I'm finally making some changes in my life as far as eating and working out. As soon as I say something it seems like everyone and their brother has the "perfect regimen".

I know my body is very responsive to working out. So I am doing Jillian Michael's 30 Day shred. As far as watching what i'm eating, I'm currently counting calories... I'm on day 5 and I'm handling just fine.

My question is am I eating enough calories for maximum weight loss? My body is used to me eating one time a day with lots of water. I'm currently trying to adjust to eating "smaller meals" and a snack every few hrs. The website put me at 1200 calories because I have a desk job (and I wasn't planning on working out). Also should I eat back what I burn?

I'm 5' 3.5" about 225 with a desk job. I'm starting my goal weight at 175ish I have a desk job and I'm currently limited to 1200 calories.

don't tell people. most of them don't know what they are talking about but think they do. just do it on your own. you can ask people here who have been through it or are going through it.

1200 calories is wrong for you. your daily BMR is about 2180. if you're trying to lose 2 lbs a week, you might find 1200 calories leaves you hungry, cranky, and tired. if you have very strong willpower you could do it, but id' suggest a more moderate deficiency of 500 calories per day and make up the extra 500 with exercise.

here's how that works. try to burn 500+ calories every day with specific cardio exercise (running/jogging/walking/dancing/etc.). eat 1680 calories per day. it's ok to go over some days and under some days, but try to get your AVERAGE at around 1680. make sure you eat the proper mix of carbs/fats/proteins (that's what people mean when they say macros on here). i also always suggesta good multivitamin taken at a meal. you need to take this with food (which has fat content) so that you get best absorption of the vitamins.

that's about it. some people think you have to eat "clean". some people think a "calorie is a calorie". i honestly don't think either matters much for you right now. eat what you find filling for those 1680 calories. log it all. as you log it, you'll discover that some calorie dense foods are not very filling and you'll naturally start eating less and less of them as you have to log them and see the consequences of choosing them.

that's all you need to know to get started. i usually eat breakfast and dinner. i don't eat lunch, but snack on fruit during the day. bananas and oranges work for me, but i'll add grapes, apples, and strawberries to that when i feel like it. it's very easy to be full on 1680 calories if you cut down on junk foods.

Thanks for your response. About the calories, I'm fine with 1200, at least physically I am. Do I still need to up them some? 500 calories is a lot to burn lol. I'm lucky I can get my 20min workout video in, let alone spend hrs working out. I want to do this right, and by golly I'd LOVE to just condition like I used to. But as life would have it, I'm the sole supporter of my family, I work 12hr shifts, I'm the only one who cleans, and I take care of our son. Life is CRAZY right now. I know they sound like excuses, but it is illegitimately hard to squeeze in me time.

I don't mind upping calories a little, I'm just gonna have a hard time eating them all.

You don't need to 'burn' them. You are not eating ENOUGH - this is the point. If you are working out as much as you say then you need more food.

If you are serious about wanting help look at the Roadmap here: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/682138-in-place-of-a-road-map-2-0-revised-7-2-12

Eating 1200 you will lose some weight, then you will stall. Eventually you will need to eat more so why not start right away? :)
