A little help needed from guys who work out!

Hey guys . . . As a part of my College S.I.P.(Social Involvement Program) I get to work with some very special youngsters who are differently-abled. Most of these youngsters have lost mobility in one or both of their legs. Some of them use wheel chairs and some of them use leg braces. A lot of these youngsters also want to work out and get fit. But they find it really difficult to use most of the fitness videos available . . .There are a few chair workout videos on Youtube by Paul Eugene and we tried them out . . most of the girls like them fine but I don't think the guys liked them very much.
Can you guys suggest any fitness videos they could follow?
Or perhaps a simple exercise regime for them.
They really are quite full of energy and an awesome bunch!
I think the guys would like something that involves lifting weights.
Thanks in advance:flowerforyou:

Have you thought about asking a local gym or personal trainer to get involved? Maybe they could help you come up with a routine?0

I know wheelchair body building exists, and its getting bigger, though I wouldn't know where to start either.
I would think working out using a cable/pulley system would be necessary since you can't move around and balance as easily in a chair.
Cable Rows
Cable Fly
Cable Lat Pull Down
Cable Triceps Extension
etc
etc
etc0 -
That would be so very hard for me if I couldn't do cleans and snatches again. My beloved squats ):
There are plenty of power lifters as well who are missing limbs.0 -

They do have a gym at the facility . . .but they don't have a gym instructor . . .sadly that's how government run organizations are so haphazard.
I could probably talk to someone there about getting them a gym instructor . . .but I think they are low on finances and I really dont know what the deal is with the administration . . they usually look out for volunteers like me to help the kids out :frown: it's really frustrating.0 -

Oh using the cables sounds like a great plan . . .yup they could definitely use that to work out. A lot of them get a tummy and they all want flat abs Thanks for the great idea :flowerforyou:0 -

Most college gyms don't have PTs - probably because they don't want the liability from someone giving out advice. Who knows, though.
What I meant, however, was that there has to be a gym/fitness center in the community with a PT or owner who is willing to help. Especially if it means he/she gets a little face time and is able to promote himeself or herself. A few minutes coming up with a routine and then they get to say that they volunteer to help kids in wheelchairs get fit? Yeah - most business owners would be all over that. Look outside the university - you should be able to get it done for free.0 -
Come to think of it there is a nice gym not too far away from the facility . . . I think maybe I could drop by and talk to the gym instructor there . . I'll give it a try . . there is nothing to lose right :flowerforyou:0

I totally agree with this. I would imagine that one the local facilities would love to promote themselves to that community. This could be an easy way to establish themselves and get their name out there as a facility that welcomes people of all abilities and wants to help the community as a whole. Sell it as an advantage for their business to help you. You could be on to something here and really spark some interest in the surrounding communities. Think big!0
