I use it all the time. I use it any time I want to take ground meat out of something. I use it in chili, pasta sauce, dumplings, to name a few.

I use it the same way that I use ground beef. Im not a vegetarian so I don't have any fantastic recomendations for use as a staple ingredient. You should check out the vegetarian message boards and you might be able to get soem great recipes from them. If you find something yummy, please share with us.

I usually add equal parts TVP and hot water to a bowl. I may substitute stock for the water, or add spices to the water depending on what I'm going to do with it.

OK AND THEN YOU GO FROM THERE ON USING IT AS YOU WOULD ANYTHING ELSE? OR DO YOU DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT.
LIKE IF I WANTED TO USE IT IS CHILLI WHAT WOULD I DO? JUST TROW IT IN?

I MADE SOME UP LAST NIGHT. TVP AND WATER WITH CAYENNE PEPPER AND USED IT AS RICE. MADE A TUNA STEAK PUT IT ONTOP OF A BED OF TVP. I HAD NO IDEA HOW TO USE IT.

Yeah, pretty much just use it as you would use the meat. Like for chili, just add it to your recipe instead of ground meat. There are lots of recipes out there on the web, but I usually just use it in place of ground meat.

I do make a really simple dumpling recipe:

1 package dumpling wrappers (available at most Asian grocery stores)
    1 cup TVP
    1 cup water
    2 tablespoons soy sauce
    finely diced fresh ground ginger
about a cup of mushrooms (any kind you like- I usually use some white button and reconstituted dried shiitake)
    2-3 finely sliced green onions

Reconstitute the TVP using the water, soy sauce and ginger. Add mushrooms and onions. Place about a teaspoon of the mixture in the center of the dumpling wrapper. Moisten the edge of the wrapper and fold closed. Steam. Serve with dipping sauce (I usually combine soy sauce and rice wine vinegar). Excellent served with miso soup.
  • Hi everybody. Hope you all are having a great day! WHAT IS TVP made of?

I use it all the time. It makes some amazing sloppy joes! You can also use it to add some protein to soups, chilis. You can also use it to make veggie burgers, and meatloafs. Just google TVP + food on google and you'll find a bunch of stuff.

Here's the recipe I use for sloppy joes:

Only difference is I add a about 2 tbsp of ketchup, and a teaspoon of liquid smoke to give it more of a smokey bbq flavor. Excellent recipe.

Although I highly doubt any store in my small town will carry it, but where is it located in the grocery store?

I just have a pot that came with a little colander that fits in it. You could put a colander over a pot of boiling water.

Sorry no one answered your question - I just came across this today - TVP is texturized vegetable protein.

I'm looking for more recipes using it as I bought some yesterday... anyone have any ideas?
