tea overdose?

Hi y'all, I used to drink tea daily as sort of a coffee substitute(i HATE the taste and smell of coffee but like being awake in the morning) and have stopped the last couple years(which come to think of it is when I started gaining) but still have loads of it lying around. It's natural loose leaves I brew myself(no bags for me) and I used to just add a spoonful or so of honey to my 16 oz mug.
Soo I guess my question is people say coffee suppresses their appetite and ups their thermogenesis or whatever, this is just caffeine right? So my black tea might do the same if I add a big mug to my breakfast every day?
And even if it doesn't help, that amount probably couldn't hurt me right? Considering everyone else on campus chugs coffee like it's going out of style? I can switch from honey to splenda if y'all think that would add up too much. Although splenda is NOT the same tea experience -.-
I will still count my calories, not looking for a quick fix just a little help

I don't know that drinking 16 oz of black tea will have any measurable effect on weight loss but it shouldn't hurt you. The quantity of caffeine is not likely to be any more than an 8 oz cup of drip coffee. I use honey in my tea. It adds a pleasant smooth flavor if you're talking 1 teaspoon (~20 calories) which I find worth it.0

I drink at least 32 oz. of tea daily. If I did that with coffee I would be a jittery mess.
If you have really low iron levels you might want to drink a herbal tea or water with some of your meals or at least add plenty of lemon to mealtime tea. Sciencey backup here: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/110290100 -
My doctor suggested five cups of green tea per day to help with weightloss. I don't think the tea would do anything but help. As for the splenda, stay away!!!!!! go for the honey, just make sure to track it!!
I also drink tea because the smell/taste of coffee is absolutely sickening.0 -
If there is any amount of tea that would be harmful, I imagine it would be near impossible to actually drink that much.
Caffeine can be an appetite suppressant, but I find that any hot beverage has that effect.0
