A simple thank you to all the MFP's

I don't post much on the general forums, but I've read a LOT of them over the past few months (I signed up in January but it took me til July before I actually could make the mental leap and commit to change), Recently i've seen a lot of topics that seem to be very critical of much of the information MFP's post here on the site (arguing who's method is right or wrong, etc).

So I just wantd to take take the opportunity to say thanks to everyone who takes the time to post any information and knowledge they have for everyone else to read.

I only started a few months ago on MFP... and I have to admit when I started readng a lot of the forums, I was a little overwhelmed. I had (and have) a lot to learn, and there are as many opinions and ideas on what's right as there are members, and when you first arrive... well, I didn't know where to start, I only knew I had to do something to change my lifestyle before it was too late. But I honestly didn't know where or how to start doing that.

At MFP, I have learned SO much about nutrition in general, and how what I eat and how I move impacts my body and my weight loss journey, because other people have taken the time to post what they know or have learned or think or what has worked for them.

So I am very grateful for all the information and tools people take the time to post, whether it be calculators or suggested calories or TDEE's or the difference between simple and complex carbs or recipes... or whatever subject it may be.

Many of us who come to this site are not knowledgable (which is how we ended up here) and for me personally, I need to learn all I can and read as much as I can, and then do some research on my own, and Idecide from there what makes sense to me. I don't assume what each person says is the "be all and end all", but without having the opportunity to learn, i can't change. So while I rarely post in the forums, and I may not pop into every topic that impacts me to say thanks, (and yes, I've seen both sides of the love/hate topics that can happen.. but I'm all grown up.. and I can can choose to move on or ignore some things while still gaining valuable knowlege and information).

So for me personally.... well, knowledge is power, and this site is a powerful source of knowledge for me, so I just wanted to say I appreciate anyone and everyone willing to share their ideas or opinions.. and to say a simple thank you to all.

Just my 2 cents...

Well done for saying this!! I've only been here a while too and generally I just read the posts and take the best bits from each and apply them where I need to and the rest learn from.

This tool has been the making of me and I'm finally losing weight so I agree, thanks for the on-line messages, blogs, posts etc that keep me logging in every day.

You go, girl (?) and I'm sure you'll see the same results too with the support if nothing else.

    xx
  • I totally agree with you! Just keep up the good work and through trial and error you will find what works best for you. When I joined, I simply started by following my calorie/carb/fat goals and tried to be under them. I think that is great foundation because it gives you a starting point without totally overwhelming you on what is right and what is wrong to eat. Also, each person's body is different and what works for one will not necessarily work for another. I started following MFP with a few friends and each of us has different weight-loss goals and ways to achieve them. Just remember to be honest in your diary entries and be consistant! Best of luck with your journey!

I too appreciate the information and support given here. I do a lower calorie that some want to see (TDEE - 20% = 1056), but I think we all need to do what works for us.

I coudn't agree with you more. I have learned so much in the past three months. I think I was at the point in my life where I was really ready to learn, and this really has been such an effective springboard. I am so much more fit and am eating so much more sensibly, and I am EXCITED by it. It is not a drag for the first time in my life. I have MFP and all its subscribers to thank.

same here, shoe.. and without having the information and knowledge available from everyone here, and being surrounded by people who are actually DOING it... I suspect I still would have had that evil four letter word (diet) in my vocabulary! It's been hugely freeing not worrying anymore about "failing" at yet another one... it's a different mindset and its lovely to just focus instead every day on simply making better choices of all the great food that is not only good for me, but that I enjoy eating!
