Juicing question

Going to start juicing. I actually started like..yesterday night. What kind of advice can you guys give me? I want to detox and I was thinking juicing twice a day, once in the morning and once at night with lunch in the afternoon. Thoughts? I want to make this a 30 day and hopefully longer project, and really pat of my daily routine to help me lose this weight faster.

I suggest you watch the documentary 'Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead' if you haven't :)

    Here's a trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gv3vEXy_EwU

Juicing is fine but let's not get carried away and call it a detox. What are you detoxing you body from? Detox is just a marketing word as it is your liver that "detoxes" anything you ingest. However, juicing is good for you as it keeps your calorie count low and you're mainly eating fruits and vegetables just like a Vegan. I think the main benefit from juicing is that you can pack more food into one meal.

I have a juicer that I have enjoyed over the years. Only problem is that you lose all of the fiber, have a lot of garbage to clean up after and cleaning the juicer is a pain. I recently bought a Nutri Bullet. WOW! It is great. Makes great veggie smoothies. Comes with a lot of good recipes. You start with leafy greens, add fruit , then nuts or seeds if you want. 30 seconds later you're done. Clean up - so easy. Rinse with hot water. You get the fiber and all of the vitamins and minerals from your produce. I read a lot of reviews before buying and ended up getting it at Bed Bath and Beyond. $99.00. With 20% off coupon = $79.00. The cashier said she had heard nothing but great things about it. I use it with greens, almond milk and my whey protein powder for a healthy protein shake. Tates great.
***Do I sound like an infomercial?? Sory. :blushing:

PS> Loved Fat, Sick and Almost dead. Inspiring, but I can't do vegan. I need more protein...trying to increase muscle mass so I can lose some of this fat!

Yes, I've watched that documentary like a year ago which gave me the thought to finally start doing it. And by detoxing I mean just basically to clean up my insides, but I didn't want you guys to think I planned on exclusively fasting on just juices. I wanted to incorporate a high protein meal into it as well.

I am doing my own intermittent juice fasting. I like it because I don't have to think about what to eat every day...helps me gain control over bad eating habits. I can plan my next healthy meal. Lots of nutrients in the juicing, etc. I want to feel healthier and lose weight. How I am doing it is... you start with juicing dinner. then you are asleep for a big part of the fast. Then you juice breakfast and lunch. Then you eat dinner, eat b'fast and eat lunch and so on. FD (fast dinner), FB, FL, ED, EB, EL, FD, etc. I am going to skip Sundays so I can have same days of doing things and more flex in my weekends with family and friends. When not juicing, the plan is to eat lean protein, 2-3 fruits per day, unlimited low glycemic veggies, etc. Just starting today......
  • If this is what you are wanting to stick with for a long period of time i would recommend getting a vitami,. this way you dont lose all the fiber and nutrients left in the pulp that you throw away. QVC actually has some great vitamix promos as well.

second the Vitamix I love mine and just bought my son one (who never ate veggies but is now having smoothies with Kale in them). Got it at Costco for $375. for the standard 5200. They have demonstration days but if you call around they sometimes have extra stock at the store
