I want chips so badly, its been 2 months and I haven't touched one. If anyone has a suggestion to replace my serious want of chips I would be forever grateful

The closest I have come to eating chips is getting some whole beans in the pods, spraying them lightly in oil, covering in Cajun spice and cooking til crispy.

Then getting some light Greek yoghurt (I usually just use a single serve pottle) about 1/2 a packet of onion soup powder and a dash of vinegar mixed up to make a dip.
  • I love beans without flavor lol, I just really want some regular or sour cream and onion chips

Pop Chips do the trick, not necessarily healthy, but they do come in flavors and way less fat,etc than regular potato chips
  • I would rather healthy stuff, I'm just not a big fan of lightly salted plain popcorn which is always suggested. What about things like crispers? Are they OK?

I have used WASA thin&crispy (?) flatbread - comes w/ sesame or rosemary.....I break it in pieces and use it for hummus and dips instead of chips. 2 slices have 70 cals and I love the taste........Usuallu satisfied with one serving of 2 slices and a few spoonfuls of hummus

Special K has a chip/cracker thing that come in sea salt, sour cream and onion, or cheddar flavour. You can eat 18 of them for only 80 calories. That's what's been keeping me satisfied!

My replacement for chips are Vita Weat rice crackers, they are thinner than normal rice crackers so they are crispy and they come in lots of different flavours and one serving is around 110cals

^^ This : Once a week a small bag won't hurt. And just may keep you from breaking out and bingeing
on a jumbo sized bag or worse.
  • Right now I'm munching on Soya nuts, tasty but higher in fat than the chips I think, extra walking tomorrow is a must

If you are really craving - have some - just only buy a small packet, eat them slowly and really enjoy and savour them, and them move on... one small packet won't break you :-)

I love chips as well. It was something my family always had around growing up and while I broke away from that habit, I do find myself missing the "crunch" of foods I was eating before I came here.

One thing that I've been doing that has helped... is I bought some Chex Cereal (gluten free for me) and I put a little olive oil in the bottom of a pan and take a napkin and make sure the whole pan is covered. (Plus you don't want one cereal piece to get a glob of oil - gross) I then add 1C of the cereal and stir it around like I'm making stir fry. I do this until it's crispy. I add either some salt or garlic salt to it - I'm sure there are some dry flavored toppings you could sprinkle on them so at least you get your flavor fix!

    Hope that helps!

Try baked Lays and then don't eat all the bag. Don't deprive yourself. Just eat a little of what you crave. I love chips and chocolate cake!!! Eat a small amount, then throw away the rest. I deprived myself of birthday chocolate cake for a week and today I HAD to have a part of a bag of cheetos!! Still within calorie range today!!

  • Chex are delicious.

I can't get chips, I am the kind of person who will rationalize eating them all the to e if I break down now and eat some lol.

seriously..if you want them, why not have them? eating a few now and again won't harm you in any way..I guarantee you that. it's only when people eat these non stop all day every day do bad things start to happen.

I consume kettle chips if its really a hard craving.
  • I don't know what your eating ethics are while trying to lose weight, but sometimes if I get a craving, I just go for it (corn chips are my weakness). I don't go for it in a piggish way, mind you. Just enough to settle the craving. I'll check the packaging to see what a serving is, count out the chips, eat it, and that's that! Whatever you're craving, your body has figured out that the easiest way to get it is by eating chips!

As long as my caloric intake per week averages what my daily intake should be, I don't usually worry too much about settling a craving with something seemingly unhealthy. I know I'll have craving days and days that I just don't feel that hungry in the same week and it always seems to work out. That, and I sometimes compensate for the snacking by putting the headphones on, dialing up a podcast, and going for a walk for the length of the podcast...

I really love Terra veggie chips. They have sweet potato, carrot, parsnip, taro, yucca, and several other veggies. They are DELICIOUS. I don't eat them often, because they aren't cheap lol. But I will splurge on them every once in a while. They're probably the same, calorie-wise, as potato chips; but I would imagine they have a little more nutritional value than plain old potato chips. I'm no expert though, and I haven't checked their label, so don't take my word for it lol.

    Popchips are FABULOUS!!

If it's the crunch you crave, also try breadsticks (as plain and thin as possible) with some salsa or lo-cal Philly cream cheese.

If you buy an individual serving size of chips could you eat just that? Or is it a trigger to eat much more?
Other options, Pop Chips or other baked versions, pita chips, make your own... see recipes here for potato and sweet potato chips.

smart fries chips give you a huge serving for 28 g, also hummus chips, falafel chips and lentil chips rock

i wouldnt be afraid of chips unless youre on a 1200 cal diet and cant spare 130 cals

if you dont want to eat the whole bag, weigh out the servings into snack bags, works for me

For me, if I'm craving chips really bad, I'll just have the chips. Because NOTHING else will do, and if I try to substitute, I'll just eat a bunch of substitutes, looking for something that will work, and then eventually give in and go buy some chips anyway, and by this time I'm in such a frenzy that I have no portion control.

For ME - it's a smarter choice to just go get the small bag and eat it. But that said, I do find that the intense cravings are fewer and farther between than they used to be.

As with any other treat, it's certainly OK to have chips in moderation. While you wouldn't want to eat an entire bag in one sitting, you can certainly enjoy a few. The message I'm trying to convey here is that treats are perfectly acceptable provided that you keep close track of portion sizes. Don't feel guilty for not eating *perfectly* - you might fall off the "MOSTLY healthy eating bandwagon" if you deprive yourself of ANY nutritional wiggle room whatsoever. I hope this helps and best wishes for better health.
  • Try Kay's Naturals Protein chips-120 cals in a 34 g bag. They last awhile and are filling. This is for the Chili nacho cheese flavor-12g protein; 4 g fiber; 2.5 g fat; 15 g carbs; gluten free. I get them at Giant.
