Big Ladies with Rolls and losing weight...

I am one of the LUCKY ladies to have been "blessed" with rolls. My waist line just happens to lie between two of them (not even counting back fat) Anyway, I started out at 297 pounds, and am currently fluctuating around 248. Of those 50 pounds lost, I went down a whole 2 pant sizes, but my rolls keep hanging on...and hanging out.
Where the weight I've lost has "melted away" from, I'm not sure.
I'm wondering if any other "blessed" ladies are noticing little change, themselves? Do you know if the rolls EVER go away, is there a way to target those rolls (and the fat that lies beneath?)

I'm not that large and never had considerable rolls; just the kind that if I bend a certain way I'd have them... like my back, and just below my bust...
Even at my thinnest I remember having the little roll underneathe my bust. Idk if it's extra skin or extra fat. I've also always had "armpit" fat. I'm hoping this time when I go back down I can work on those areas... but I used to be in a lot of sports and considered myself to be an athlete; and still had them.
I think it just depends on the person . I think when you lose more weight you will start seeing the rolls shrink.0 -
I'm interested to see what those who are closer to or at goal have to say. I am the same way, waist sits between two rolls. I've went from a size 30w to a size 20/22w but I constantly look like I have muffin top, even when wearing jeans that are too big due to the upper roll on my stomach. :grumble:0

Bump for later0

Exercise! This is where it's at. I've only lost 34lbs, but I've gone down 2 sizes. This is amazing because I'm 6'2 and it takes tall people a LOT of pounds to drop a size. Last time I lost weight without exercising, it took me 40lbs before I lost just ONE size down.
If you're not working out, start. If you are working out, increase the intensity, frequency or add weight training. I guarantee you will see a difference.0 -
I'm just about where you are...and I have the rolls, but they are getting smaller. I've been doing a lot of walking and aerobics with strength training where they do some focusing on the core. I don't know if that is what is helping them to shrink or if that is just where my body decided to lose. I hope you have lots of success!0

Since I first started working on my body over a year ago, I definitely had some rolls. I was 5'2" and 175lbs. Funny thing is, looking down at myself I see the same person as then. But looking at pictures it's a huge difference. They will go away with time, but they can be stubborn. Rolls are solid fat and take time to burn off.
I started losing weight again recently, and had a decent roll/crease on my side, a bit high. I put pics up of it, before and after for a month. It's actually started to go away, though I can't see it looking at myself. Just keep at it and they will dissipate, I promise you! If you want to see results, take a picture once a month or so. You'll be completely shocked at the difference0 -
I'm interested to know how to get rid of the rolls also. In the past 2 yrs i've noticed the one under my breast has become much bigger and I want to get rid of both of them.0
-
OK this is why I definitely think it is important to take progress pictures!!0
-
I had a roll on my left arm and its almost gone! the rolls on my side by my breasts are doing soo much better too. My tummy was just one big ball... It is now much less rounded and a lot of weight has kind of 'fallen' ..it's sort of a saggy gut but I do have some shape starting to show.
I agree with the person who said to take photos.. I do this once a month..very motivating. Last month a friend of mine took a pic of me from behind...Wow! I lost a lot more on my back than I have from the front!! At first I was bummed about that but then realized how many people see me from behind ( hairdresser, folks behind me in line anywhere, those walking behind me etc). It really encouraged me a lot!0 -
I know exactlly what you mean and although there seems to be no difference there will be trust me I just now started seeing them shrink and some of my back fluff disappear at 70lbs it will probably take more pounds for me since I am only 5'4" BUT ya know what? They will eventually go away, currently I am trying Jillian Michaels 30 day shred and I'm seeing some big changes in my rolls.Good luck doll!!0

I was glad to see this post. I am only down 19.2 but sad cuz I want to see changes and know in my body size it will be awhile. I am working out 6 days a week for about 20 minutes but this week I have increased my intensity. With that said at over 300 lbs..it's frustrating for me. I am taking pictures so that I can look...didn't take pictures til week 4, but we shall see. I know all this skin might just hang forever since I have been fat for years....i am doing walk at home walking dvd's and ww the biggest loser challenge...here's hoping0

I am 5 ft 2in or there abouts and I here ya..i can't believe i would have to wait til 70 to see things go away..i have a HUGE stomach..hoping to get that to shrink0 -
I had that problem also - and to make it worse I lost weight pretty fast, without exercise, for about 45 of my 70 pounds lost, leaving me with saggy skin. And, of course, the belly is the last thing to go for me. I dropped pants sizes way faster than tops.
So, my suggestion is that you stay patient and take the weight off slowly and properly by eating right and exercising. The rolls will go away and you have a better chance of your skin rebounding better than mine.
I've done some research and I have found that the sagging will get better over time (a couple years?) so I treat my skin with vitamin E oil and continue my exercise and eating better. Hopefully these things will help.0 -
well.....i have a waist, but its much bigger than i want it to be. i have lost 40 (gained 1 lb this week) and my waist sittin at 34 inches.
it doesn't look that big when you look at it, but trust me i have measured it regularily. and i have a "pudge" on each side just under the waist that just won't go away. hubby calls em love handles. im hoping another 15 lbs to my goal and they'll be gone. like i said....im hoping.0 -
I can say with all honestly, that I am only loosing my "rolls" now... and I have lost 135lbs... I wear a spanx everyday to keep everything smooth. At 50lbs I noticed NOTHING different... it wasn't until I was around the 75lbs lost mark, that my "shape" started to change. Honestly, I remember going to my mom (my biggest supporter) because I looked the same. She swore up and down that I was smaller "all over", but since the proportions didn't change I had a hard time seeing it.
I'm not trying to be discouraging, just honest. The rolls were one of the last things to go. I do workout (I lift heavy weights multiple times a week + cardio), and I am young (which most people seem to think makes it easier) and I still have skin/fat roll issues. I was told by my doctor that it is partially genetics and that there is no "one road" about it. Some people don't have this problem and others do. Maybe one day I'll be able to have it fixed, but until then, I am still extremely happy. If the worst thing is that I have to wear a spanx everyday (but it a size big, it will do the job but wont be nearly so uncomfortable!!) then I can honestly say that I will deal for the rest of my life. Such a little price to pay!0 -
I'm hoping exercise will help with this problem. :grumble:0

I know exactly what you're talking about and it just takes time for them to go. It seemed like I wasn't really noticing a difference at all, and then I took a progress picture at 23lbs lost (I started at 211lbs, wanting to lose 71lbs in total) and there was SUCH a difference! I'm guessing I just couldn't see it because I see myself everyday and my brain was used to seeing me a certain way.
Also like someone else posted, take pictures from behind and take measurements. You might not "see" the inches lost with your eyes but it really helps keep you on track knowing that you lost even .5 an inch on your waist/hips/ect.0 -
I too have been blessed with rolls. I started at 284 lbs and am down to 235 lbs. I have gone from size 26 to size 20/22 so I know I have lost inches. Sometimes I feel my rolls are getting bigger, but I think my bust is getting smaller.
I hold up size 20 pants every day and think my *kitten* won’t fit into these, but manage to get them on.
I do walk and do some weight training too. I am looking forward to a time when the rolls go away forever.0 -
I think many women have this problem. I have lost a lot of weight, and my rolls sag like crazy now... I wear Spanx daily (a size smaller than I wear, to keep it all in) and am working on building muscle - hoping the skin will start to tighten up - I use cocoa butter lotion and vitamin E creams daily too... I really hope it works, but wont know for months - I'm still working on losing more!!0

I have the same issue, of course.. I am 5'2" and started at 240 lbs. As of this morning, I weighed in at 214 (yay! 25 lbs gone!). While my rolls were pretty bad in the beginning, they were 'full' looking. Now they are thinning out and while it doesn't look pleasant to me, when it's covered and I take a pic with a shirt covering my belly up, you can't really see there are 2 different rolls there. Shirtless I can see the thinner rolls and to me, I think they are looking floppy. Bad bad look.. ewww. But my husband points out that it's better they are thinner and kinda floppy looking than full of fat!
Taking pictures has helped a lot. And one poster here mentioned taking rear photos. I never even considered that! I can slide my hands down over my butt and feel the difference. A few coworkers have asked me where my a** has gone.. hubby comments that I lost that dreaded third butt cheek *shudder*... there was a mini cheek above my real two. I can't believe I just admitted that.. but it's true. After only about 12 lbs or so, I noticed it was shrunken a lot, nearly gone. Somewhere between 12 lbs lost and 20 lbs lost I noticed (as did he) that it's GONE! Only 2 butt cheeks again, LOL
Exercise will help a lot of course. I noticed that while I was really hard core into my cardio workouts, the flab was diminishing and when I do more toning, I can feel the muscles underneath. Who knew I had actual ab muscles?! HA!0 -
Thanks, everyone! I have noticed loss of inches in my legs and hips, but not in my "belly" (region below my belly button) if my rolls have gotten thinner, I've not noticed, do you all measure each area at the largest "roll?"0
-
the more weight you lose the smaller the rolls will get0

I'm currently watching my personal progress on this.0

Hey first off congrats on losing soooo much weight! Keep it up:D
And I'm not a big lady, just slightly overweight, but I do have a lot of fat on my waist and I have an obvious roll (or 2) from the back. My waist is pretty flabby from the front too and so is my stomach! When I bend over I have 3 rollsD:
But yeah just keep on keeping on! When you lose even more weight, your rolls will be bound to shrink! Good luck!:)0 -
Hey ladies! I have gone from 270 to my current 228 and i can see a big difference in my rolls!! They are definitely still there cuz i still have a ways to go but they are shrinking for sure, my lower belly has gone done the most, doesnt stick out anymore like it used to. I will say though when i lost the 42lbs, even when i took pics i didnt see a big difference, i could tell they came in but they where still looking the same. About 3 months ago i started eating at a 20% decrease from my tdee, have not lost a pound, but lost a bunch of inches and went down to a size 14 in my pants. I started weight training 3 days a week, cardio 3 days. For not losing a single pound, my whole body is reshaping, it is crazy. I have gotten more compliments the last month then ever and now i see a big difference in my pics. I have seen a huge difference in the back rolls and the middle of my stomach is where the most is, the sides have slimmed out alot and the roll is barely there on the sides. They will definitely go down but i highly suggest lifting weights if you are not doing so and making sure you are fueling your body properly. It has made a world of difference for me! Hope this helps ladies!!0

You cannot spot reduce, keep losing fat and you'll eventually lose/reduce the rolls0

As I have gotten older, I never lose my muffin top although I do lose my back roll. I've been a yo yo dieter so even though I'm not at my goal weight now, I was in my comfort zone 3-4 years ago and still had a muffin top. Heck, I even had a muffin top when I was at my lowest weight ever and definitely within BMI recommendations. Anyway, more recently, in my 30s, I did cardio and weights usually for 45-90 minutes 3-4 times per week at that time and still muffy would not budge. However, I can attest that FOR ME, back exercises made all the difference in the world in getting rid of the upper roll and making my body look more balanced due to a wider v shape in the back. I've lost 40 pounds recently and muffy is my top trouble zone.0

yep. i used to had 2 really big rolls, now it's 1 medium sized roll.
same thing with inner thighs. i used to have 1 huge roll o fat i had to grab with my full hand and now it's a squishes easily between my thumb and ring finger.
just keep losing body fat and the rolls will roll away0 -
I lost a lot of weight, but my stomach is still huge and I have hanging skin below it. I lost all my weight in my neck, arms, chest and legs, which are all now small. I am going to keep losing wt. and hope that the stomach rolls go away. I have lost about 8" from my waist, but I look like a stick figure with a circle for my stomach...lol. Anyway I believe that it will eventually shrink, but I have also had a lot (I really mean a lot) of abdominal surgeries in the past 4 yrs. so I don't know for sure if that has anything to do with it.0
