Low fat/fat free (gall stones) help!

My sister has gall stones and has to wait 6 weeks to see the consultant. In the meantime she has been told to keep to a low fat/fat free diet. She wasn't given much info on this and has scoured the internet for ideas. However, she is BORED of her food and so I was wondering if anyone has any experience on this and can recommend what they ate? Any good website links would be perfect too, incase there's some we haven't come across yet. Thanks!

oh wow, I know exactly what she's going through. I had gallstones right after my 1st pregnancy. it was a very difficult moment for me. I ended up eating alot of soups, chicken and avoided Any sugar, caffeine, red meat, pasta etc.i was bfeeding so it was challenging to keep my calories for baby.

I wasn't able to wait my 6 weeks to get my surgery, I had to go to the ER because it was becoming too difficult and painful. they ended up doing the surgery earlier.

tell her to hang in there!
  • I just had my gallbladder removed. I think staying away from fried and fatty foods and watching spicey foods is the main thing. Meat, vegetables and starches are fine. Remember spicey is in the eye of the beholder. Things like tacos, spaghetti sauce, and the liberal use of hot sauce and crushed red pepper don't bother me that much but might another person. I still fry but eat very small portions of that food. So the morale is, eliminate trigger foods but continue to enjoy a diet that works for you. I hope your sister feels better soon.

I developed gallstones in my recent pregnancy, and am still waiting to see the consultant on the 21st of this month. Two weeks ago I was in agony with the pain, and had to call the doctor out, and turned out my gallbladder had become infected, and was prescribed antibiotics. She also told me that I had to go on a completely fat free diet.
Up to now, I can't say I've abided by that. I've completely cut out takeaways as that was the main fiend for my attacks, and have cut out MOST, but not all, fatty foods. Touch wood, I've not had any problems with it since, so all I would say is as long as it's in moderation and she avoids foods rich in fat, she will be fine.
