Hitting the Right Ratios

Do you all know how MFP selects your numbers that are set as a guideline for us to follow? I have been doing searches but not finding the answers!
I have not been very successful over the past couple of weeks even though I have been under in calories. I'm wondering if my numbers are not set well for me personally and if so how to change that?

MyFitnessPal has me set up as below
Daily calories - 1420
Carbs - 195
Fat - 47
Protein - 53

I know it is all about making the right choices and finding the right balance for your body. Right now since this is still the beginning for me it seems like a lot of trial and error. I would just like to see some progress on the scale. I feel like I should be reading a book about how my body actually break nutrients down and uses them through out the day. I guess was hoping MFP would be a cliff note type version to get started on a good track. I'm willing to do the work, just not sure I actually understand all the numbers!

Pointers?

I think you have to know your body as it relates to any personal issues, ( mine is type two diabetes). I played around a bit with lowering my carbs, upping my protein etc. and scale numbers were not moving like I expected. i finally went to a nutritionist and she helped me fine tune the numbers. Turned out I really did need carbs, just need to focus on the right kind and to focus more on fiber, so I added that to my view. If you have a good doctor or can go see a nutritionist, it can be a big help.

I started at 290, am currently 240 goal is around 150 (not totally sure since I don't ever remember being under 200). Here are my settings:

    Calories 1400
    Carb 140
    Protein 105
    Fats 47
    Sugar 12
    Fiber 35

I actually just found one of the marked pages, it is listed under exercise and weight loss and I had been looking under food and nutrition. Very helpful info on what your body does with calories! Now to just try to figure out the ratio part :)
