5 minutes to exercise

If you only had 5 minutes at a time to exercise what would you do? I have 2 small children and have to work it in whenever I can. It's really hard for me to get in a full work out at a time. I try to do two- three 5-10 minute work outs during the day.

You won't get much benefit from 5 minutes at time, you really need to keep your HR up for 20 minutes but if I absolutely only had 5 minutes I'd skip or use a medicine ball for strength. Have you tried using some of the workout DVD's at home? I often have my granddaughters here and they love to "exercise" along with me. I have a couple old stretch bands they use and a couple 1 lb weights. They love it and they get a little exercise too.

    Google Tabata.

Thanks. I just found a Tabata timer online and saving it to my favorites so now when I have 5 minutes I have a plan of what i'm going to do.

Tabata or HIIT training, you can get in a KILLER HIIT workout in 10 mins, or even 5 mins. Just google around and see what you can find. If you can manage 12 minutes check out bodyrock.tv majority of their workouts are 12 minutes and KILLER. But HIIT and Tabata will give you a really effective burn and residual burn in a short period of time!

I work at a desk for long hours, so I exercise at my desk every so often in short bursts. I keep a set of 2 lb. dumbbells in my offices and just pick them up and sit in my chair or stand and do speed reps as fast as I can for however long I can. Relieves stress and "exercise is exercise" said my former trainer (was in PT).

And excellent Google: "best 5 minute exercises".

I'm sure you are burning a lot taking care of your family. :)

    Best of luck!
