hand pain and excersize?

so i have been having hand pain, like in the middle of the palm of my hand. when i try to paint with the brush it kills... then it feels like my hand is going to sleep.
My question is......is there an excersize to build the muscles in the hand?

Yes, lots of hand exercises out there! You don't have any issues with your fingers becoming stuck at all do you?

One really great exercise is starting with your fingers straight and then bending the tips. Make sure that the big knuckles are straight, it is referred to as a claw. From there you then go into a full fist. then go through the opposite motion...fist to claw to straight fingers. Next would be just laying your palm flat on the table and spreading your fingers apart and then back together, this helps work the little intrinsic muscles.

Another really good one is isolating each finger's movement. So for instance say you want to work the ring finger, place the back of your hand on a table, hold all the other fingers down and move only at the ring finger. The other fingers will try to help as they share the same muscle belly. You should feel a pull through your wrist aka the carpal tunnel.

If strengthening is what you need, just go to the store and get some silly putty/playdough and grip it for 1-2 minutes, 1-2X/day.

With the above exercises, you can't do them enough! Use those stretch before you start your painting and take breaks to do them too. I think it might really help you :)
