Post workout supplements (for women)

I recently had a car crash, nothing too major but I've been out of action for a good few weeks (this also happened 2 days after i returned from a holiday where id been rather naughty unfortunately!)

I've been easing myself back into my workouts and doing some general full body fitness classes, aerobics etc and cross trainer work, and am not starting to reintroduce weights,

I'm just looking for a little advice on any good protein supplements to use post workout, I'm finding that because I've been out of the gym for a while my muscles are taking a lot longer to recover and it's meaning my progress at getting back to full fitness is a lot slower than I'd like...

Because I'm not able to exercise as much as I'd like I'm looking for something really good for helping me recover post workout, but ideally that's also low carb/low fat .. anybody got any suggestions?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated,

Thankyouuuu !!

Any shake will do ya. Gaspari, Optimum Nutrition, Trutein, Syntrax, take whatever tastes best and fits your calorie goals.

You don't need post workout supplements if you are just a general person doing workouts. It's a gimmick latched onto by the diet industry to sell more crap. Have a glass of milk and save yourself a lot of money or plan your workouts for right before a meal. Just because professional athletes and heavy lifters use a "recovery" drink doesn't mean everyone needs it.

If you arent doing seriously intense workouts you dont need them. eggs, cheese, chicken, etc after a workout will work.

If you just want the shakes though, i just got dymatize fudge brownie....and its delicious. like....brownie batter good.
  • For what your doing make sure you are drinking lots of water and maybe add some glutamine to a morning shake or sip on a recovery drink while working out such as SciVation Xtend. I used it after my first pregnancy while doing a cardio bootcamp class and it seemed to work well. Try soaking in a salt tub too if you can. :)

Oops, thats meant to say I'm *now* starting to reintroduce weights !

Thanks for the suggestions guys, it's just my muscle fatigue post workout is meaning im having to take breaks between workouts more often even though im doing less, which is frustrating as im desperate to get back my fitness..

For example i used to do intense circuit training Mondays and swim Tuesday mornings, Aqua run wednesdays, and box thursdays, now Im still aching at boxing from Mondays workout!

Do you really think eating a meal after is enough to make a difference?
I know nothing will be a miracle cure but I've never used supplements post workout, only as meal replacements or a shake in the mornings .. I dont buy into fads or anything but i've been recommended to do something post workout... Obviously dont want to waste my money either !!

(also that brownie thing sounds AMAZE!!!)

lol @ glutamine. better eat plenty of it so that some of it actually makes it through your digestive system in tact.
