Understanding my daily diary

Hey guys,

I hope you are all doing well. I have a question in regards to undrstanding My FItness Pal. I set up my account and placed sedentary as my life style because of course i have a desk job. I also put that i wanted to loose 2 pounds a week. My Fitness Pal set me up at a goal of 1380 calories for the day. I entered my worked out setion and all of a sudden it state tat i now have 537 extra calories. Am i supposed to eat those or will i loose more than two pounds if i leave them alone?

Lastly, what does net 843 mean? I'm trying to understand the summary page. Goal 1380 Foof +1263 excercise -420 net 843.

All your replies are greatly appreciated.

Kind regards,

Ingrid

It is up to you if you eat back your exercise calories. Some people do regularly and some people do not. some like me will use them as a cushion in case I have a day when I just want to eat something above my calorie goal. Some people do lose more not eating them and then some people need to eat them in order to lose. It is all up to your body. Choose one and give it a go you can change it if it is not working.

The net calories are related to exercise. It is what is left over after you have eaten. Such as mine today (not a good day) My goal is 1200 the food I ate came to 710 I exercised off 573 so my net is 137 (not good). So that means that although I ate 710 calories my body is only able to use 137 calories to function on. This is why some people eat thier excercise calories back in order to keep thier net calories up to thier goal amount. (mine is low today because I just don't feel good)

If you are using MFP to figure your exercise calories it is the general thought that MFP over estimates the calories so some only eat back half of them just to be safe. Good Luck

If you read the sticky topics at the beginning of this section you will find some very good long answers to this question.
There is also some really good stuff in the Help section (believe it or not!)

    But, here's the short answer:

Yes, MFP assumes you will eat more on days when you exercise.
Log your food and exercise as accurately as you can and aim to have 0 cals left at the end of the day.
