update: I measured this morning and my waist is now 25.5 hip measurement is the same, so new ratio = 25.5/38 = .67 :happy:0

Mine waist to hip ratio is .7 (26.75" waist and 38 inch hips - I'm 5'9" and 136 pounds)

yeah I'm not buying it...it says my ratio is .84...but come on! my waist is 28.5 and my hips are 34...that just means my waist isn't tiny...I still wear a size 2 jeans...so really? I'm at risk?0

It is a guide to assessing risk, not a definitive answer. Belly fat is associated with higher health risks and this ratio MAY indicate more belly fat. On the other hand, if you just happen to have a larger waist (that is not due to fat accumulatino there) and/or smaller hips, it is less meaningful.0 -

Exactly. It's sort of like the apple shape vs. pear shape argument. If you are apple shaped AND you have a lot of excess body weight, it is more likely to go around your organs and cause issues like hypertension, diabetes, ect. If someone has a .84 hip to waist ratio and has a low-normal body fat %, then it doesn't mean they are at risk. It just means if they were to become obese it could cause more problems than the person who has a .6 Hip to waist ratio.0 -
