I've been interested in boxing for a couple years now but whenever I think about taking a class, I find some reason why it just won't work. Usually, I convince myself that I just don't have time. One month ago today, I got up the nerve to start boxing lessons with a private coach. They are hour long sessions and the first one was absolutely brutal. I didn't make it through the whole thing and probably spent half the session making excuses as to why I couldn't do something and just plain whining. All told, I probably spent maybe 25-30 minutes actually exercising. It was a lot more cardio conditioning than I anticipated!
I spent the next week making excuses why I couldn't go back. The day before my lesson I was fine tuning my excuse so I could call and cancel! However, I somehow convinced myself that I should just give it one more shot. The next session was still intense, but I made it through without quitting!
I am now on my fourth week of lessons and am absolutely loving it!! I love the conditioning (even when I'm sweating buckets and mentally cursing my coach!) and I love the stress relief I get when I put my gloves on and get in the ring.
Today, we decided to go back to the workout I did the first week, just to kind of gauge my progress. I was able to get through the workout in 27 minutes, without taking any breaks. I then went on to do another 45 minutes of training (because he was oh so kind and added a few extra minutes to my session) and felt awesome when I left the gym today! I've been avoiding the scale lately because I don't want to let it kill my motivation so it was fun today to see just how far I've come in a month!
