Ranger bars

Saturday I did the Ruckus Mud Run, and one if the obstacles they had was called "ranger bars" it's like monkey bars but at an upper ward angle. You have grab the bar, swing your legs over and wrap around then shimmy up the end until you get to the gorilla bars. As soon as I got my legs up I got instant charlie horses in my calves. I've been stretching but they are still a little sore.

I'm doing another Mud Run in two weeks, and ideas or tips to strengthen myself for this obstacle or good stretches to help relieve some of the pain?
