A few weeks into this...

Okay, I have only been actively losing weight since June 1, 2012. I think I've done pretty well. Started walking on the beach around July 1 and then joined the YMCA in October.

I've been going to the Y almost daily to work out. Mostly Treadmill, Elliptical, Stair Master and/or Bike. Recently added some strenght machines in as well.

My thing is on some days (not many, but some) my leg muscles just won't seem to stretch out and relax. I have an old knee injury from a fall off a race horse from a few years ago, but it is not my knee that is bothering me. It feels like I have not warmed up or stretched my muscles.

What is one to do? I pushed thru it today, but didn't get the calorie burn or time in that I normally would like.

More protein before I go? Take some Aleve before I go?

Oh and I did take yesterday off from working out....so I did have a day rest in there.

Thanks!

How do you warm up? Do you walk gently for a few minutes before going to more strenuous activity? Do you stretch afterwards?

I would get a foam roller and start using that to stretch your muscles, particularly if you have a knee injury. It hurts like the dic.kens at first, but as your muscles relax it gets better.

I usually start by walking the first 1/2 mile on the treadmill at a slower pace (around 2 or 2.5 mph).

Is this not slow enough maybe?

I also do not add any incline in this time frame.

    Thanks!

Hmmm...that *should* be enough. Have you tried upping your warmup? Maybe it is not enough for your muscles to be ready to work. Also, do you do some stretching through movement before starting? I have heard you don't want to do static stretching before (only after), but I'm not sure if that's true or not.

I often feel like this too so I am going to keep my eye on this thread. I know that heat after my workout often feels good (sauna/hottub/steam room). When I was a yoga teacher, my teacher would make us drink "Golden Milk" -- milk with tumeric, honey and almond oil -- and that does work for my husband (just google Golden Milk and Kundalini Yoga and you will find out how to make it). However, that is not doing the trick for me...
