Trying something new??

So my oldest son who is 9 does jiu jitsu. I love watching and him and I practice moves at home. I've been toying with the idea of joining since in september there's about 4 or 5 other women who have joined. What is stopping me? Well for one, low self esteem. I always get paranoid people are making fun of me. It all stems from years ago when I was jogging and someone yelled "keep running, your still fat". Talk about making me feel like absolute crap. And for two, I'm not sure how my husband would feel about it. Both of us have jelous tendancies. I'm not sure how he would feel if I was sparring with a man. I know, sounds silly typing it out, but if you've ever watched jiu jitsu, there's some pretty close encounters, lol. I'm sure I could request only sparring with another woman, but I don't want to sound like a freak. I know it would be excellent for weight loss and it would be great to learn self defence. I'm 31 now, so if I'm going to do it, I should start soon. Does anyone else do any sort of martial arts or have any advice? Thanks.
