fitbit calorie goal

So I've recently seen the intake goals calculated by my FitBit...and it says I should be eating around 2800 calories a day. Right now I'm eating about 1000 less than that because that's just how much I end up with at the end of the day hunger-wise--I'm not trying to lose or gain weight right now. I seem to be maintaining on this, but I don't understand it. Should I be eating more (am I damaging my metabolism by eating this size of a deficit?)? Is my FitBit glitching?

my fitbit ususally gets to about 2300 a day. Are you very active as 2800 is high? I tend to eat what mine says minus 500 but I am trying to lose. If you are happy doing what you are doing, then thats great but you can eat alot more if you want to0

I won't eat that much If I'm not exercising like a demon or trying to bulk...Not sure about your size, I'm 5'8.5 and 179lbs....I have no idea how the fitbit gets the calorie burn and how accurate it is - I heard that it is more or less a quess on your height weight and age and adds movement through the pedometer function?
I might be wrong about it, but if you are happily maintaining, don't eat that much more if you are not hungry or works out a lot.....0 -
I'm only 5' 3" but I run about 4 miles a day plus walk probably 10 more (main/only form of transportation) so I guess when I write it out that way I'm probably not eating enough...thoughts?0

Seems like its giving you more calories to use up because you run every day.
If you feel fine, Id probably stick to what youre doing. I wouldnt eat what it recommends. But youd have some leeway if you wanted to eat more. I wouldnt go beyond 2000 cals, in your siuation.0 -
I eat today what my fitbit says I burned yesterday minus 10 % for slower loss because I'm close to goal. I think if you want to maintain then yes you should eat what it says your TDEE for the day was. If you eat less then you will loose weight of course.0

i would slowly up your calories by a hundred a week. I have found fitbit pretty accurate. Up by 100 a week if you start gaining after a few weeks drop down a little and stop there. If you are burning 2800 calories a day eating 1000 is no where near enough0
