What did you eat? I hate when you ask people what did they eat when they started there journey and they tell you things like "nuts, fruits, veggies" I am like you didnt quit everything cold turkey. Right? What did you eat when you first started to gradually make changes in your lifestyle eating habits. What are some good recipes and snacks to keep you feeling hungry at 190lbs while still keeping you going in the right direction?

I have always eaten the same things just in smaller portions. I knew if I took away all the things I liked that I'd never stick with it. I still eat fast food and junk but it has to be less than 1350 a day so if I eat some big gooey thing it's going to be water for the rest of the day!0

smaller sandwiches. used to get footlongs at subway, now get 6 inch.
switched from soda to la croix, now i just drink water.
less fries! if my BF orders them i sneak a few but i try not to get them on my own.
less cheese, on everything. i couldn't give up burgers but i could give up cheese and cover it with mushrooms, peppers, omnoms.
edit : it's so important to work in salads. 3-4 months in, i started eating a salad a day at work, and now my palate is much more attuned to vegetables and i crave them now. lifestyle choice, you have to eat vegetables! learn to love 'em :P0 -
I ate mostly the same stuff, just the healthiest versions I can think of. For example my favorite dinner is stuffed bell peppers. I use 96% ground beef now and I use egg whites and make my bread crumbs out of Ezekial Bread. My tomato sauce is made from tomatoes without salt.. And i add a shredded zucchini to the filling to bulk it up. Add a cup of brown rice for the whole meal and I just smashed half the cal and most of the fat from dinner.0

I eat now pretty much what I ate while getting fat (diary is open), but I measure out portions now, and I don't eat between meals. That was my biggest problem - the constant grazing between meals.0

Drinks: At first I stuck with juice, coffee, water, tea, iced tea, starbucks - all with sugar and cream where I wanted.
Now I drink only water, unsweetened tea, coffee with less cream/sugar and also now black , and the Occasional treat from starbucks. I removed added sugars and almost never drink juice.
Food: At work I still had a piece of dark chocolate mutliple days a week at first. I still ate pizza and chinese food, just in moderation. I'd buy natural frozen pizzas instead of ordering out. I had red meats and stuffed fish along with salad. Nothing too bad, but I still could have done better. I also ate fast food in moderation, but it was still in my diet.
Now I buy tons of organic fruits and veggies and look up recipes regularly to keep things interesting. I eat tons chicken and fish, but still incorporate steak and ground beef.
I also make enough at dinner to wrap up some for lunch the next day.
No more white rice or white bread.
I still eat pizza sometimes, but no more frozen (natural or not). Chinese food too, but I choose better options. Steamed shrimp and broccoli is my favorite option at my local chinese take out now. And you can't go wrong with veggie pizza!
I've learned to not be afraid to try new recipes and buy fruits/veggies I've rarely eaten. Spaghetti squash is a new favorite and really is a good substitute for spaghetti!
It's all moderation. I have one cheat day a week and that works for me. Good luck!0 -
I made sure that I used leaner portions of meats when cooking for the family. With my kids I still have to serve some stuff like pizza and other quick things for on the go. So for pastas I just add fresh veggies on the side and take a smaller portion. I make garlic bread but I do not use french bread for myself, I use low calorie bread. For pizza I only get thin crust cheese from Papa Murphy's and top it at home. For Mexican I usually do no shell at all or I do corn shells only, and frequently I go meatless and only do beans. Sandwiches I do like others I get smaller ones and usually skip the cheese. I will have a broth soup with it to feel more full at lunch time.
I also make sure I eat a huge salad before every meal, even if no one else does usually 15 min before the main meal would be ready . Then by the time I get to the main course of pizza or whatever my brain is already starting to register that I am full.0 -
Fruit, specifically Peaches, the Fiber keeps you full longer.

I quit everything cold turkey and then re-introduced it all back into my diet over time. Now I eat whatever I want and stay under my calorie limit on weekdays and don't bother checking on weekends.
Greek yogurt with chia seeds and peanut butter is my god!0 -

This is pretty much what I have done too. I still have some trouble staying under my 1300cal. per day but I'm still learning and making adjustments. I still cook the same stuff I've always cooked. I've just learned to eat smaller portions and use less oil and butter.0
