Omron Walking Style III Pedometer - any good?

I'm way too broke for a Fitbit and don't have a smartphone, but Amazon are selling the Omron Walking Style III Pedometer for just under £15 ($24). Does anyone use one, is it any good?

tymia for your advice

I have the Omron Walking Style Pro which, I think, is very similar. Actually, this is my second one (the first one started to malfunction after about 2-3 years of use).

I got my first one when I was really out of shape and just starting to get active. My main form of exercise was walking, so the pedometer was really helpful. It was a good tool and motivator.

Now that I am more fit and focusing more on workouts at the gym and things like interval and strength training, I use it less.

It is strictly a pedometer - it counts steps; it does not record heart rate. If you do a lot of walking or hiking, it is useful to keep track of distances. Also useful if you want to challenge yourself to just be more active every day. Its calorie burn estimates are pretty useless to me, because it assumes that your are walking on level terrain (I live in a very hilly area and hike in the mountains).

I've got the Tanita PD 724 which is small and acurate. It doesn't link into a computer, I just manually add in my caliries at the end of the day. It's about £25.
