In need of serious motivation

I am not sure how much motivation I will be able to get with this because I know the majority of you are trying to lose weight but I under doctor’s order to gain weight. Not because I have an eating disorder or anything but my doctor thinks I have hypoglycemia and because of that, if I don't I will end up blacking out or passing out. Anyway, today was my first day of eating right (a little over 2000 calories w/ lots of protein) and it was TOUGH. I really admire you guys who can go out & loss weight because I have a serious headache from trying to figure out how much to eat & when to eat & what to eat. I believe my Food & Exercise logs are open so feel free to leave comments or send FR.

Thanks!
Allison

The ultimate goal is to be healthy, which ever way you have to make the scale move. I looked at your log, are you a vegetarian? If not, you should add lean meats to your diet, that boosts protein quite a bit. You can also try protein shakes which having varying protein sources. Some shakes don't sit well with me. I'm not too familiar with hypoglycemia, so it's hard to make specific suggestions. i just wanted to show you support and give you what advice I could. I hope it helps. And congratulations on making the effort toward bettering yourself

I think my diary is open .. LOL you can go take a peek at yesterday. Once a week .. usually Sunday .. I call it my Sunday Splurge Day. It's about eating whatever I feel like eating ..

Except for Starbucks .. I didn't go out .. I made my own meal. I didn't realize when I bought the package of 2 filet mignons (one for me - the other for my son) .. that they were 11 oz. each! Yikes.

Either way .. I ate a LOT of calories .. just not a lot of food considering what packed the calorie punch. I don't call it cheating .. since I log everything. However, it's not my everyday meal either. Looks likeb you could manage to eat some high calorie foods (although .. not exactly healthy) to make up for the constant eating. I'm not suggesting switching your diet to eating sticks of butter with that gallon of ice cream. But you can eat normally and allow yourself dessert! at lunch and dinner!

You could incorporate more nuts and seeds .. those are healthy, but also pack a higher calorie punch. Sure don't know how to recommend what to eat .. since I'd hate to suggest eating junk :(
  • Hey, Allison!

I used to have a big problem with hypoglycemia. Had to pretty much give up sweets and white bread to get the blood sugar stabilized -- and for a couple of years, couldn't go more than 3 or 4 hours without eating, which was a real nuisance.

These days, there are a lot of foods that can make things easier. Like high-fiber, high-protein pita bread. Or all that Atkinsy stuff. Or single-serve packets of nuts (a great portable snack).

Getting some protein in every meal or snack, especially breakfast, is supposed to be important to keep glucose levels from going too low or too high.

If you get a good-quality unflavored whey protein (I like Wellness Resources, when it's on sale, or MRM), you can stir a scoop into porridge or muffin or pancake batter or mashed potatoes. Ricotta cheese mixed into mashed potatoes also goes really well.

Ground flax seed added to cereal or baked goods or stews adds flavor, healthy anti-inflammatory oils, some protein and a lot of fiber. Chia seed does pretty well, too; I mix a couple tablespoons with OJ or a fruity herbal tea, let it sit while I dress. then -- breakfast. Or it's good sprinkled into fruit and Greek yogurt.

Eating higher-GI stuff helps a lot, too. Sweet potatoes, luckily, are amazingly high in fiber (plus nutrients) and make a nice carb-tasting treat.

    Good luck!
  • I've been passing out again lately -- this time, because of dysautonomia instead of hypoglycemia. Sometimes I think life had a really twisted sense of humor.

One thing you can try is Life Choice bars the protein ones have 20 grams of protein and they taste really good, the three flavors are peanut butter, choclate and choclate mint. There are different types of bars two they are not too high in calories, but they are high in protein. Fruit is good and some types of fruit have higher carlories than others. The main piont is to eat the good calories and just not eat junk food.
