Is this about right or not?

I work at subway and I couldn't find anything so I just typed in standing and put in the second one,it said I'd burn 1,012 calories in 4 hours,I just don't know how that's possible...

  • If it is then i'm getting rid of my chair at work and doing all my work standing up!

Your work should not be logged as exercise. MFP accounts for your work via an activity multiplier, e.g. sedentary, lightly active, etc. This is set on the Home, Settings menu.
  • Actually, it may be right. Consider that standing uses several muscle groups to keep your body upright. So there is some muscle activity going on. There is also the base metabolic rate to take into account. Even if one were lying down, the body needs a certain amount of energy (calories) to maintain life. Breathing, feeding the body's tissues nutrients and providing oxygen, taking up waste products, all that requires calories (energy). So, yes it is possible. I suspect standing outside in a snowstorm is even more calories.

Just set your activity level to lightly active. I teach a nursery class so am on my feet all day and do this - I'm fairly confident I don't burn 1000 calories in 4 hrs!
