Calf Reduction Exercises?

I am having a lot of trouble with this area of my body...well that and my thighs..but I'll save that for another post. I have almost completed the butt bible series which includes good lower body exercise but I still cant seem to make my calves reduce at all. I am 98% sure its not muscle that is the problem. What are some good exercises to target this area and how often should I do it? I am already pretty low cal on my diet,..most days 900-1200 cals. I don't want to lose muscle. Thanks!

Calorie reduction and general fat loss is the only way. Sorry.

You can't targt fat loss to an area with exercise. Just keep losing fat and see how they look when you are lean.

You are genetically predisposed to carry a percentage of fat and muscle. Once you hit a good body weight, you really can't spot reduce your calf or thigh. Unless all you do is intense cardio - which will make you super lean but little muscle.

I am already pretty lean. Do you think 6 more pounds would make a difference? I think I would be called underweight if I lost anymore than that.
  • Everyone retains fat in different areas but unfortunately you can't spot reduce. If that's the only place you think you have body fat left then maybe those last 6 lbs will make a difference.

It's not pounds but body fat that will give you the look you want.

In other words, focus on reducing your body fat. Maybe start a heavy lifting program? I know that I have lost a lot of inches off my legs since I started Strong Lifts. Compound lifting will get you the best results.

I used to have large calves too.....I needed "wide" boots. Just tried those boots on a few days ago and now they won't stay up. Compound lifting for the win!!
  • Idk if calf raises work with reducing your calf size, but I definitely feel the burn in that area after I do them. So idk, maybe that helps?

For the first time ever I can now wear knee length boots. I have always had big calfs but with diet and exercise (I do both strength training and cardio) they have slimmed down enough for me to be able to buy boots from normal shoe shops.

Actually I just saw your avi pic. My opinion should not mean much, but my opinion is that you need to lift weights and BULK.

I'm going to take back my previous reply. Cardio is not what you need. I thought you said you wanted to slim down.

Why do you think you need to lose ANY weight anywhere? We can't see your calf muscle, but I'm guessing that you just have a woman's body, which means a little curvier than a twelve year old girl - which is a good thing.

You definitely need weights and heavy lifting, and enough food to fuel that type of workout. If you think those thighs are fat, then maybe a little counseling, too. You aren't seeing yourself as you really are. Look up "body dismorphic" on Google. You are a beautiful, thin woman.

Not to be critical OP, but I was thinking the same thing. You need to GAIN LBM, not lose more weight.

Thanks for the replies. I do agree that I need to weight train.. which is sort of what I have been doing for almost 6 weeks. Pushups, squats with dumbbells, bicep curls..etc. I started with no weight, to a light weight..and plan to increase. I just wanted to focus on some of my problems areas to tone and tighten.
