Gym sales

So I joined a new gym after going to the ymca. The new place is super close and the Y was quite a commute. I got a free assessment with my membership and just had that. I am interested in a personal trainer to get me started on strength training as I dont have much experience in it. I inquired about it after my assessment and was not prepared for the hard sales. After being a Y member it caught me off guard. They were trying to get me to sign a contract for a year at $45 a week. Plus enrollment fee. I got really confused. I felt like all they wanted was my credit card number! I really just wanted a weekly session to help me learn and keep me motivated. They said they do have "paid in full" sessions for a minimum of $500 for 12 so I might do that. No contract. They were trying to get me to pay for it but I didnt have my cc. They asked how soon I could get it and if I was going home, how long it would take ect.... I feel really dumb now. Like embarrassed to go back. I plan on getti.g some sessions when finances allow me to. But I worry they will be asking me about it whenever I go in.

All most all gyms do that. So if you are not ready......just tell them you are not ready at this time for personal training and will consider after a few months or so. My advise is for you not to sign up until a few days you observe the personal trainers training others and see whom you like and be comfortable with. Some gyms offer 3 sessions for a reasonable rate and you may want to consider that before buying 12 sessions. Once you tell them you are not planning to sign up right now, they will leave you alone. Good luck.
