Here's my story

I'm a 44 year-old father and husband about 10 weeks into my weight loss plan, and so far so good: I am 30 pounds down from my high-water mark, with another 40 to go to my goal. What spurred me on this journey was my head and my heart: my head looked at the great weight management program that my company offered its employees at a great discount, for which I was able to pay with pre-tax money set aside in an FSA account. That was the logical part of my decision.

But the more important reason was in my heart. This summer my daughter turned eight, and I realized that I had 10 more years of summer vacations with her, 10 more years of father-daughter time before she was old enough to make her own decisions and strike out on her own. I want to make the most of those years, and that requires that I take better care of myself. This was the emotional part of my decision.

So here I am: getting up at the crack of dawn to work out at the gym at 6am three days a week, and tracking every morsel of food that I consume (thanks MFP!). It hasn't been easy (especially the workouts my trainer puts me through ), and it hasn't been quick, but the whole point is make changes that are sustainable in the long-term. Slow and steady wins the race, right?

My food diary is open, so feel free to take a look and add me to your friends list if I sound interesting. I'll be sure to return the favor, and do what I can to encourage you in your own journey.
