Don't Understand

I am seeing a pattern of finding things I have eaten on the search list and entering it, yet it is completely different than what the food's nutritional facts show....I'm new so am I doing something wrong or what?

    Example?

Your pound of pork tenderloin should have the same nutritional info as any other pork tenderloin - but if it's "Pancakes - 3 small" there's a huge area for variance there.
  • Can you give an example?

If you are talking about a certain food item that you are not finding exact match in the search - you can always add it under 'my food' tab. Otherwise if you are finding a match in search but it is inaccurate you can modify it (on the website) when they ask you whether the information is accurate.

    I hope that makes sense.

No, you may find a dozen entries for any given food and they may all be slightly different. I have noticed that many user entries don't include all the nutritients. Some only enter calories, fat, carbs and protein. Some even seem to only enter calories. Also, a premade product's nutrition may actually change over time.

I either look up the food in the usda database to see which is correct, or go by the entry that has the most confirmations.

It is frustrating at times, especially when you are new, but you get used to it after a while. It's still a really great site considering it's free.

I find it odd that anyone would need an example of what the OP is talking about. Look up 'bell pepper' and I think you'll get the idea.
  • Okay, thanks all.

This is the USDA database of foods. It's a good tool to use when trying to figure which entry is most correct.
