Exercise to go overboard?
I am not sure if this is bad but somedays I will purposely go and burn through 5-8 miles of road running just so I can live it up that night and not go over. It seems to not have a bad effect my my weight loss but I don't think it can be too good to run 6 miles and burn 1000 calories and then drink 8 beers that night with a buddy.......

Why not?
One of the things I love about my long runs on Sundays is that I can sit down, guilt free, to a 1000 cal breakfast. Working out provides us with a host of benefits and one of them is being able to eat more while still losing or maintaining weight.0 -
I do the same thing. I don't see anything particularly wrong, as long as it's sometimes, and not all the time.0
-
It depends. What kind of beer are you drinking?0
-
Pish posh. I try to do the same thing when I know I'm gonna be drinking rather than eating my calories. And I think as long as you're drinking enough water and don't dehydrate yourself, it's fine.0

I do the same - if I know Im going out at the weekend I'll be at the gym every morning before work and again after work. Theres no way Im giving up all the delicious foods that made me a fatty AND pink wine! So i'll exercise to drink the wine and dribble on kebab shop windows - at least I have some control. x0

I run a TON at the gym so I can basically eat whatever I want and not gain weight. I don't go overboard but I don't limit myself or "diet" per say.0

I don't think you should be so hard on yourself. My husband always says, 80/20. If you are good 80% of the time, you can enjoy your 20%. As long as you don't drink 8 beers every week or every night, I think you will be fine. I find that when I'm too strict with my diet and exercise, it makes me resentful and more prone to go over a lot. So, if you want to go out with your buddy and enjoy some beer, do it. It might not be good for your diet, but it is good for your soul.0

I do it all the time. If I had to live on the low calorie goal set by MFP, I'd never stay on the diet. As long as your output is more than your input, I say all's fair!0

I do the same thing. If I'm going out drinking one night, I lift extra hard and run extra far to burn those few extra calories.0

sounds fine to me!

I think a lot of us do this to a certain extent. I think it only becomes an issue if it becomes a vicious cycle - where you are exercising for hours at a time to support a huge calorie intake.0 -
I do it! If I know I'll be drinking with my friends.. I'll control my food really well throughout the day and have an epic workout, so I have calories remaining for the drinkieess! :drinker:
I do the same if I'm going out for dinner, cause, although I try pick healthiest options, restaurants can be hard.
I even do it when I know mum is making PASTA for dinner, cause pasta has SO many freaking calories for such small amounts!! Haha
So its not just with alcohol
But if you want to lose weight, its what you gotta do. When its gets to maintenance though, I'm sure you don't have to be sooo strict with it and be like MUST GO TO THE GYM FOR 10 HOURS CAUSE I'M DRINKING TONIGHT OR EATING PASTA FOR DINNER.. hahahaha, well I hope I won't be doing that forever :laugh:0 -
I tend to do this when I know i'll be going out for the night. It's better than nothing right?0
-
thats me typically, for the next two months i'm trying not to "reward" myself with large meals as im nearly the final stretch of my goal0

Ok...so I am not the only one. I don't do it too often. I usually drink Yuengling which tastes great and is 128 cals a bottle. I have found that sweet mixed drinks just don't seem to be worth the calories. I drank a half-gallon of Bacardi Zombie last New Years and that calulated out to over 3000 calories! Won't be doing that this year!0
