Considering a Workout DVD Program

I am considering buying a workout DVD program for the following reasons.
1) Winter is fast approaching. We got our first measurable snow last night. This makes running outside unpleasant and difficult.
2) My weight loss has plateaued over the last few weeks. I'm hoping that changing up my exercise plan will help me break out of it.
3) I have chronic low back pain which has gotten much better since I started my weight-loss quest. I'm hoping that adding core-strenghtening to my routine will improve it further.
I've been looking at Insanity. Having read reviews here and on Amazon, I see that folks rave about it and seem to be very pleased with their results. However, Insanity includes a lot of jumping. I'm wondering how my 52 year old knees will tolerate that. Also, I live in a townhouse condo and wonder if I will bother my neighbors by repeatedly jumping up and down at 5:45 a.m. I suppose I can put an extra rug in the spare bedroom to cushion my knees and deaden the impact to the floor.
Any recommendations or other feedback would be very welcome.

I've only done a few of the videos and I can tell you it is a lot of jumping that could be really hard on the knees, yet if you land correctly and softly you should be okay! Although I live in a 2 story townhouse and my boyfriend repeatedly tells me every time I do a video it is really loud down there!
They are a great workout and I really love the high intensity, but maybe you could more look into the lines of P90X, as I've tried those too and they seem to be more strength with cardio as insanity is a lot of cardio with strength.
You could opt for an elliptical machine as they are great total-body yet still low impact! Try out http://www.nordictrackcoupon.com/nordictrack-ellipticals/ my sister recently bought one and found this site that saved her $200 on hers!
You could also try things such as craigs list or your local paper, maybe someone is selling a quality elliptical at a low price!
If you are more interested in the DVD workout, I think P90X might better suit you than insanity as it is a lot of plyo (jumping) and could be hard on the knees! Good luck, hope you find something that fits your needs! And congrats on the weight loss thus far!0 -

i would NOT recommend starting with Insanity for the very reasons you mentioned. it's VERY tough on the knees, joints and back.
P90X would be a great starting point because 1) It focuses on ALL areas of fitness 2) Is easily modified and 3) You can start it from ANY fitness level. Additionally it includes things like yoga and good amounts of stretching, which are both integral to reversing the aging process. Definitely worth checking out.0 -
I did just the 1st month of insanity , I am 38 , not overweight and I had to take a break because it was hard on my knees...
It' s an amazing work out but you jump a lot and it's really fast when you change from 1 circuit to another ... To an extend that I had some difficulties to keep a correct form sometimes when switching from circuit X to circuit Y...
Hope this help !0
