Just looking for opinions. I'm hosting my first Thanksgiving this year. Is this too much for 8 people?

1 15 lbs turkey
Cornbread dressing
Mac-n-cheese
Mashed potatoes
Steamed asparagus
Squash casserole
Fresh baked bread
Whole cranberries
Peach cobbler
Pumpkin pie
Apple-bottom cheesecake

Sounds good! But instead of steaming that asparagus bake it in the oven with a little olive oil, garlic, salt&pepper

    Deliciousness.

(You can also saute it up with some prosciutto/salt&pepper but this is MFP after all so I'd hate to be stoned for suggesting fancy bacon)

    Mmmm... prosciutto sounds amazing!

Not too much at all! I make a 20 pound turkey for just me, my husband, and our 8 year old. Afterwards I dice up and freeze the leftover turkey meat and use the bones to make stock. There are such good sales on turkey this time of year that it's just cost effective to buy more and freeze it for later (one year I managed to buy a 15 pound turkey for a total of $1.36!).

honestly, for 8 people 15lbs is a little small... unless any of those 8 are children

    for 5 adults & 2 kids we usually have a 12-13lb one

and YUM! but you're missing the can of jellified cranberry that holds the shape of the can, and black olives.

I was worried 15 lbs wasn't going to be enough for 8. 2 of them are my kids, but I have a teen and an above-average 9 yo. I was hoping all of the sides would make up the difference.

If you want, you might add a ham. This gives plenty of meat and requires very little effort. You can even serve it cold.

    Everything sounds so good :)

Also, I concur about the cranberry jelly. A necessity, in my book.

i'm a little embarrassed to admit this, but i LOVE canned cranberry sauce. a lot.

I do too. But in recent years, I have developed a fondness for the whole cranberries in a can. It tastes exactly the same but the texture is more like berries in syrup (I realize that explaining it that way sounds kind of dumb).

I agree, get a bigger turkey, you need leftovers! I make turkey noodle soup and lots of turkey sammies after Thanksgiving. Mmm.....
