Grilled chicken salad, make a vinagrette with the juice and throw some of the seeds in the salad.

So is the rest of the fruit useless? Unless I'm going to make juice out of it?
  • Add the seeds to salads, fruit and veggie. Eat plain, over ice cream, added to cereal. Use it the way you would most any fruit.

the pomegranate is made completely of seeds. There is no real "flesh" to eat. The seeds are delicious but they are a biotch to get out sometimes, and they stain everything! Be careful when pulling them apart!

    Apple Pomegranate Crisp. Yummy!
Or just eat the arils plain. Or mix them with yogurt...
You only use the "seeds" all of the peel and pith get thrown out, but you can Google plenty of recipes! Last year I did an entire dinner planned around pomegrantes- every dish used them in some way.

I peel it, pull all the seeds out and put it in a tupperware container. Then I just eat them by the handful for snacks. You can also put them on salads or other dishes. I eat the tiny white seed in the middle too but some people spit them out.

When you peel it, do it in a big bowl of water...it'll make it easier to separate the seeds & membrane.

ETA: Google how to peel it if you're unsure. I score the skin and peel it away instead of slicing right through so I don't mangle the seeds (partially because part of the fun of eating them is that they burst, partially because they'll stain). Once I've pulled a hunk of it apart, I submerge it in a bowl of water and start gently pushing the seeds off the membrane.

LOL!!!! I pop the seeds out into a bowl and eat them...I don't eat the whole seed, just the juice. Careful because the juice really stains!

    Just remember your Greek mythology...
It is one month in Hades for each seed you eat :)
  • its delicious as it is, mixed with oatmeal for breakfast, salad topper, fruit sauce to have with chicken, mix with other fruits for smoothies, add to cous cous or quinoa . hope this helps :)

I make pomegranate jelly every year - delicious!

But as everyone else said, just snack on the seeds. I also spit out the seeds after I get all the juice out of them.

Pick out the seeds & eat them raw. I used to eat them as a kid. Yummy

When we were kids we were given a pin and ate them off that. They were easier to pull out and kept us busy for hours eating the seeds one at a time with a pin. Health and Safety, eat your heart out. Don't know how I lived to be 61.

Throw some into a smoothie blend. The fibrous part will sink to the bottom and the yummy juices will mix into the rest.

The only thing we ever did with them as kids. We would stab ripe ones with an ice pick. Then throw them at girls nice white blouses n there way to school. It made one heck of a mess. But we all got caught... You guessed it... The stains on our hands.

I eat pomegranate with cottage cheese and a little granola. I had to put them in my sink to get the seeds out. Less mess that way.

I grew up eating tons of it as a child in South Africa - and now all of a sudden its a "super food" and crazy expensive...
Eat the seeds, nothing else... And it's nice if you keep it in the fridge - a big bolw full of seeds as snacks, lying in the shade under a tree with a good book on my grandma's farm......:flowerforyou: Thanks, brought back lovely memories!
  • I love them plain. I just cut off the very top & start peeling away the skin & picking out the seeds. I like them because they take a long time to eat and keep my hands busy so I don't end up eating mindlessly while watching TV. Wear something old though....again with the stains, I also have yellow fingers right now 'cause I've been eating one a day for past few days!

Are the seeds hard? I've only ever had pomegranate juice, because the seeds look to me like they would be as hard as unpopped corn kernels.

...I'm always paranoid about breaking my (soft) teeth. I had to get an inlay done after a run-in with a baby carrot, so... I'm probably a little more paranoid about crunchy food now. (And it's all genetics, too! Most of my dad's side of the family has exceptionally soft teeth.) :noway:
  • I have a tree in my backyard, I spoon out the fruit with the seeds (okay my mother-in-law does it) into a container and eat it all down.

I think you just scoop out the seeds and eat them.

After getting SEVERAL bad ones, though, I can't stomach them any more. Just the sight of them makes me gag.
  • I love them! They are my favorite fall fruit. The easiest way to get them out is to cut off the top. Slice 4 slices about 1/4" in from top to bottom. Soak in a bowl of cold water for 15-20 minutes. While in the water, pull apart at the seams you cut. Keep the pieces in water and begin to pull the membrane and peel away from the seeds. Pull out the seeds and rinse in cold water. Store in the refrigerator in an air tight container.

i eat them plain. I mix them in yogurt. I put them on a salad. I put them in oatmeal.

They are tart but in a sort of sweet and sour way. To answer one of the above questions they are very soft and tender with a small seed on the inside. The seed is not bigger than say, a blackberry seed.

P.S. Wear old clothes when you clean one! :)
