Which is better for monitoring calories burned in exercise, a FitBit (in which case, which one) or a Polar FT40M?

Polar HRM fitbit is great for everyday tasks but cannot know the intensity of your excercise for instance it cant tell the difference between a run and a walk0

Many thanks - as a result of a Google search on the "Polar HRM fitbit" reference, which confused me, in the first reply I found that this question has been addressed before and that it is like comparing sausages and bacon - both are very nice in their own way but not necessarily alternatives and may even go well together.
