PCOS diet- an average week?

I'm trying to get a handle on how to eat well for PCOS, and it seems I can't find a balance. I've tried eating low amounts of carbohydrates (made of veggies, an apple, maybe a little bit of oats, nuts and believe it or not..my gummy vitamins). However, I've been doing this on and off for awhile, and I am just so low energy. I like to work out everyday, and I know the transition can be hard, but I literally just feel like I'm pushing against a wall anytime I go to walk or ESPECIALLY walk up stairs. I've found my workouts are so much harder and I am out of breath/breathing heavily VERY easily.
What are some of your example calorie and carb levels that you've found to work? I lost weight last year, but PCOS made me put it back on. I want to lose, but this week in lowering carbs and calories has me at bottom! Also, how often do you indulge/what do you consider an "indulgence?". My sweet rewards were going to be things like luna bars that I was thinking about doing 2-3 times a week to keep myself from going crazy.

I also have PCOS. It is very easy to gain the weight, that's for sure.
Have you tried just sticking to a calorie limit and working out? That's what I did and was the only thing that worked for me, regardless of what kind of foods I was eating.
Right now I am sticking to no more than 1,300 net calories.
I lost 70 pounds a few years ago by not going over 1,500 calories most days along with activity.0 -

OH yeah. I did that successfully (I think it was pre-PCOS) and it worked wonders. I was down 12 pounds. Then I got PCOS (went off BC), was working out the same and eating consistently 1300-1400 calories a day and gaining weight on it.0 -
Wow, that is crazy. Sorry to hear that. You think you'd easily lose weight with 1,300-1,400 calories.
I wonder what could be making you gain weight, I know that would drive me crazy. Have you tried talking with your doctor about this?0 -
I had the same problem. I was eating fine and exercising a lot and i put on all the weight i'd lost (6 stone in total!) i finally cracked and went to my GP turns out i had too much blood sugar and it was just storing as fat pretty much all the time. Now i'm on Metformin twice a day and i'm slowly making progress. It's a hard slog though.0

Have you had any blood tests done? You may not have the insulin resistance that comes with some cases of PCOS, meaning you could increase your carbs a little bit.0

Yeah I have and my glucose levels were high. That's one of the main reasons they diagnosed me with PCOS because despite gaining weight back, I'm not overweight.0

I have PCOS and have lost over 180 pounds....i started at 380 pounds. From 380 pounds to 210 pounds i ate 1800 calories, I didnt watch carbs per say except I tried to avoid them with my evening meals.....I still would maybe 1-2 days per week eat them with my dinner time. Now I am under 200 pounds I do the same thing...try to avoid the carbs at night (and when I say carbs I mean grainy carbs not fruit and vegies) and I now eat 1600 calories a day.
Also treat wise I have 100-300 grams of chocolate most days. I watch my sodium very carefully. The chocolate is mostly dark chocolate cocoa 70%. Also I am not insulin resistant.0 -

I also have PCOS and find myself successful with less then 120 grams of carbs per day. I also make sure I'm under 40% of my daily calories from carbs.
I also have no sugar at all as I also have insulin resistance and sugar isn't good for me.
One thing I found is that when I lift weights I end up building a lot of muscle and thus not lose weight. I don't know if it's my hormones out of wack that cause that.0 -
You know, I have PCOS and the doctor didn;t tell me how to eat. I just..eat. My advice, eat as healthy as you can.
However, I do a lot of moderation. I know my food daiery looks bad today, but it isn't like that always.
I do find myself eatting less..bread. Carbohidrates seem to be bad.
Though for me it's just moderation. I drink my water.
I cut out diet dr. pepper..to one per morning during the work week because simply I need the caffeen. I would drink coffee but about the time I get to it, the coffee has gone cold in my jantior closet.
I eat a lot of veggies and salads...
At the moment, with this I have lost 31 pounds. So it is possible.0
