Best ways to beat being bloated?!

Although I have lost a stone I am still having major issues with being bloated. My friend suspects IBS as she has similar issues, but how can you get tested?
Is there any foods you can suggest that will ease it? I am sick of hiding my tum which I have bloated moments as it makes me look pregnant, honestly! You should see the picture of me and my nan last week (il upload picture on my profile), got bloated straight after lunch and all I had was lasgne and peas and it was a very small portion, I think the cheese did it!
Also can anyone suggest any cereals that are actually good for you? I am very picky with cereals and not keen on fruit. I only recently started to eat cereals but when researching what I was eating (crunchy nut cornflakes, crunchy nut clusters, Jacobs clusters) I found out they were very high in sugar! So much for being healthy! I have now swapped to porridge but I would like variety other then the other option of toast and jam!
Here is my daily diet (roughly):
Monday:
Breakfast: Porridge with syrup
Lunch/tea: Sainsburys Cafe sausage and mash or prawn jacket
Tuesday:
Breakfast: Toast (maybe jam)
Lunch: Sandwich
Tea: Home-made beef stir fry with chinese sauce, veg
Wednesday:
Breakfast: Porridge
Lunch: Salad and Prawns
Tea: Morrinson Cafe Fish and Chips or Chicken Tikka
Thursday:
Breakfast: Porridge
Lunch: Salad or homemade veg soup
Tea: Other half of beef stirfry with chinese sauce, veg
Friday:
Breakfast: Porridge
Lunch: Tuna Jacket Potato and Salad
Tea: whatever bf's dad cooks (chips and chicken normally)
Saturday:
Breakfast: Jam on Toast
Tea: whatever bf's dad cooks (chips and something) or I may cook soup or maybe food at a takeway if at bf's gig!
Sunday:
Breakfast: Porridge
Tea: Chicken casserole, carrots and roast potatoes or more flippin' chips
I think my diet is very healthy until the weekends, which I am still trying to sort out. But what I don't understand is even when I eat healthy I still get bloated and sore.
Any suggestions?
xx

wheat can make you bloated, but doesn't look like you're eating much of that?
As for breakfast - I eat porridge a lot, with dried fruit (raisins usually) and cinnamon, quite tasty that.
Otherwise, try Oatibix with milk if wheat is the culprit cos weatabix won't help you then
Don't use any of those 'low fat' cereals. Special K or anything like that they're full of sugar! Rather stay with plain corn flakes. Low sugar and tasty with almond milk for example or just stuff them into greek yogurt with some fruit if you're so inclined! Also, make your own granola. There's a little sugar in that, but least you know what's in there and it's all quite healthy, really.
Good luck finding out what the bloating is about x0 -
I am someone that gets bloated easily.
I can eat a normal portion and feel(look?) bloated as hell!
Through MFP journey, loosing the weight and eating better, I get less and less boated.
Less salt, less carbs, smaller portions. I did cut ALOT on bread, pasta, rice and so on.
Cheese? Yes it can do it. Mostly because of the Lactose.
Sadly, I never heard about this condition... so cant help you.
I am not a cereal eater, my breakfast usually are my coffee or tea, a hard boiled egg and maybe a probiotic yogurt.0 -
Sorry to hear that this is happening to you. I have had this problem as well and to combat it I have been drinking peppermint tea after meals and it has been really helpful. Even having yogurt that has probiotics in it is good too. Hope things work out for you! :flowerforyou:0

wheat and milk can do it if you have intolerance to it. I think you can be tested for IBS but mainly I would just start with cutting certain things out of your diet and see if it helps. Also, keep up with water cause it can get worse if dehydrated (at least with me it does)0

I switched to unsweetened almond milk and I rarely have cow's milk anymore. Now I notice that everytime I have a latte I'm bloated. So I try to limit the amount of milk in what I eat. If I have a latte on a day I may avoid ice cream, yogurt, and cheese the rest of the day.0

From a quick look at your diary it looks like you tend to eat a lot of pre-prepared foods, which can be very high in sodium. This will definitely add to bloating. Try adding it to your diary to keep an eye on it.
I agree with several posters above that you could try limiting either dairy or wheat (one at a time) to see if you notice a difference.
Drink plenty of water, too.0 -
Thank you everyone for your replies.
Thank you for the suggestion of Oatibix and boiled egg, I am willing to give it a blast! I have never heard of almond milk but il look into it. This maybe a silly questio, but are you able to use almond milk in cups of tea? I drink lots of tea on the weekends and I was wondering if their is a substitute I could use rather cows milk?
I did cut bread, yoghurt, cheese, milk, chips out of my diet a few months back and I must admit I did feel better, but now I do eat those things now. My tolerance to them in moderation, I can eat two small slices of cheese but not a cheese sandwich. I avoid yoghurt because it feels funny inside, i don't drink glasses of milk but can add it to things without problems. I cannot eat fried egg at all but boiled eggs seem to go down okay
I am awful with drinking water, it is a rarity to be honest. I drink a lot of tea, strawberry ribena, or Lord Nelsons berry drink. I try to avoid fizzy as it gives me stomach pains. Another question? Is strawberry ribena bad for you? There seems to be two sides to this. I drink about 3-5 cartoons a day
I am learning not to eat pudding if I am full though even though I love my ice-cream.0 -
Yes, you can have almond milk in tea, though I'm not a fan - I find it too watery (but then, I only drink full fat, so that may have something to do with it!)
There is also a milk brand called LactoFree which is for people who are lactose intolerant - they also do lactose free dairy and cheese too.
To be honest, it does sound like a lactose intolerance, with the (little) medical knowledge I have; you can have a test for it at your doctors I understand.
If you take a hormone contraception, have you changed it recently? I suddenly became intolerant when I had the contraceptive implant, and it went away within the week when I had it out, so that might be something to look into.0 -
I used to be chronically bloated every single day and get sick with everything I ate. Then I eliminated ALL grains (no corn, rice, wheat, ect), all dairy, tomatoes, potatoes and soy. It is amazing to be able to eat and not get sick. I would suggest cutting out all these things for 2 weeks, then try one thing at a time (give it a couple days between foods) to see if that particular food is the culprit for your bloating. Then you can know which foods to avoid for a longer period.0

You should go to your doctor and find out what the problem is from a medical professional. The other way to try to effectively self diagnose is to cut out one of the foods at time ans see if it helps.0

This sounds almost too logical.0 -
Try mint tea0
-
Yes, I do have the contraceptive implant and thinking about it, it only really started after I had it in.
Another thing, my dad struggles eating white bread, it makes him dizzy, maybe it's something that runs in the family?
The mint tea sounds like a good idea. The only thing that really settles my stomach is chewing mint chewing gum. I never leave the house without some!!0 -
Just to add - if you use soya or almond milk in your coffee, put the milk into the cup BEFORE the coffee. Especially soya milk will curdle if you add it to the hot beverage. But it won't do that if the hot beverage is added to it.
Almond milk is also mightily tasty in cereal. Gives it a nice flavour
Don't ask me why. Tis simply a fact I figured out  (I'm sure someone else can enlighten you)
And another yes to mint tea. Forgot about that! Totally helps with bloating.
Hope you find a solution!0
