I want Gold's Gym reviews!

So I don't knock planet fitness at all, and without it I wouldn't be where I am today, but I feel as if I've outgrown it.
I'm bored doing the same things and standing in line behind rude people if you try to use the free weights.

I found a gold's gym, and it's only 7$ a month more than what I was paying.
I'm trying to get my social anxiety under control and take them up on their kickboxing and yoga classes.
The clientele is a bit intimidating though... it is a completely different atmosphere than PF.

So to the point....are you a member of Gold's gym? Have you taken the classes? What did you think?

Anything I should be afraid of? All opinions welcomed.

I belonged to Gold's. They have different levels of membership here in the NW. You can join one gym, or get the membership that includes all of their gyms.

Each gym has its own personality, depending on the clientele and the time of day you visit. If you think it's time to up your game, give it a try; I think they should have a trial membership. Anywhere you go you are going to have a different experience from the one you are used to. Change is a good thing! It helps you grow.

I was a member of Gold's Gym many years ago (back in 2005). They were open early (5 am) at my gym, and open late. That was important for me. I guess it's all about what you want. I don't have issues at my gym now (LA Fitness), but I have been thinking about this place called Anytime Fitness. They have a 24 hour gym. There have been times I got up at 5 am, wanted to go to the gym, but LA Fitness isn't open that early.

Really, really depends on the location and when you go. I second the trial membership idea. The only reason I didn't join a Gold's is that they weren't open/didn't have childcare at times that worked for me - I liked everything else about it.

Anyway, just remember that a) everyone was a newbie once, b) you pay your monies just like everyone else, you have exactly the same right to be there that they do and, c) everybody's staring at their biceps in the mirror, nobody's looking at you anyway. (Well, unless you're standing between them and the mirror. Avoid that and you're golden.)

We had a gold's membership for years before we had our son. We are at the YMCA now *ONLY* because we don't want to pay to drop him off in the child care area. The one here charges $3.00 every time you drop them off. It's not included and they don't have a monthly plan for it.

AS far as the gym, we loved it!! I mean, really loved it. We went in the morning before work, think arrive when the doors open. The morning people were WAY friendlier than the night, after work crowd at the one we went to. I think it's because if you are dedicated enough to be at the gym at 5a.m. every.single.morning, we were like a little family.

FWIW, they do, or they did, offer trial memberships. They gave me a 60 day one to start with since I was already a member of a local small women's gym. That helped with finances until the women's one ran out.

I like the actual gym and the classes, but the person who signed me up basically lied to me and told me that there was a 2 year contract and if I wanted to get out of it I would have to pay, but it was no big deal because it is only 50.00 to pay.

My boyfriend was there and he heard too, but I didn't get it in writing. I pay 29.99 a month.

I tried to get out and pay the fee because I work out at home when my kids are in school and didn't have time except on DSunday to go. I was treated really rudely by their finance company (who I was referred to when the manager told me that I couldn't be telling the truth, she would never say that, it just isn't true.

The manager said that I could sell my member ship on Craigslist and other such *kitten*, and that is ridiculous because now they offer no contract memberships for less than I am paying. I don't even go at all anymore because I do get good workouts, and I am just so pissed every time II see the managers, etc. (even though IO know it is just their policy)

So, I would say, nice gym, but in my experience, a lying recruiter.

I had a trial membership at golds and it was ok. I've heard that is is very hard to cancel a membership, at least in my city. I also did a trial at the YMCA and ended up getting a membership there, easy to cancel, no contracts, and it was a nicer atmosphere (bright with lots of windows). Definitely do a trial, see if you like the place, ask questions about contracts/cancelations etc.

I've never belonged to a Gold's Gym, but I'm going to repeat the sentiment that every gym has it's own personality. There are PFs that you won't feel comfortable at and Gold's Gyms that you do. Same with me and my Anytime Fitnesses. Take a tour of the place and talk to the staff- it might help!

Yeah, classes were fine. Being cheap, it gets really busy.

Thank you everyone, I appreciate the comments. I know every gym will be different, but sometimes it helps me not tweak to hear other people's opinions. :)
